I wish I could but he's NOT a Head Coach. He's the type of guy that needs to be a coordinator under a STRONG Head Coach. As we know, Andy Reid calls all the plays in Philly so he works well suggesting ideas to him. If we're firing Mangini - we can't race to settle on a guy Detroit fans were holdign up "We miss Wayne Fontes" signs over. I saw a video of him yelling at the Lions and his voice was crackling like a kid going through puberty and I kid you not a few of players were laughing. IMO, guys like Brad Childress, Romeo Crennel, Wade Phillips, Norv Turner, Josh McDaniels, Dave Wannestedt are only Coordinators. That's not an insult because they're good coordinators. BUT you give them the lockerroom without a strong leader above them; and they HAVE to relate well to the players. The RIGHT guys have this aura. I want a YOUNG guy with swagger like Jim Harbaugh. You take Stanford to a level Bill Waslh couldn't even get it to and I'm intrigued. NOW, let's add what he played at the pro level. Another guy I'm really hip to is Ron Rivera. He is a coordinator at this time; but I think he's got the swagger, intelligence and experience as a LBer with the Bears today's players can respect. If memoery serves me right - I think he played Stanford. What's that mean? It means he's freakin smart. Aside from that, I REALLY want a 4-3 defense here. If we hired Rivera, THEN Morningwagsicles could be promoted to Offensive Coordinator instead of workign in his current capacity as Advisor to the OC (Andy Reid). The NFL Channel just mentioned Mornigwhegs & John Fox as leading candidates. We might as well rehire Mangini if that's the direction neither guy won with teams with this type of talent levels. That's just firing to fire somebody. Riffer and Jax Dawg like nicknames so I'm just having some fun. That said, Cleveland has to be REALLY careful with this because hiring a clown like Brad Childress (regardless of how smart he is) defeats the purpose if he's got the personality the players can't relate to. And nice guys like Wade Phillips, Norv Turner and RAC are all smart too; BUT they have trouble lighting a fire under players' asses when necessary. When Jim Harbaugh was throwing punches at Bears LBers his first day in practice - Ditka said said somethign to the effect "I knew that kid was a born leader." Point is I think he's got a lot of goodies that are waaaaaay too good for the University of Michigan next year. He's on right now so I'm gonna go check out HOT Stanfords. Just remember, Holmgren's first NFL boss coached at Stanford prior to becoming way more successful in SF.

I forgot about Sherman - Holmgren ties from Green Bay until seeing his name mentioned here, good call. Sherman seems to have turned around Texas A&M from a team sinking to the bottom of the Big 12 to a top 15 team this year in a short time, could be a possibility for Cleveland.

TOM! I completely agree that the Cleveland media has a lot to play into this. Those fuckheads are grabbing the pitch forks and lighting their torches at the first opportunity they can and the people who eat it up follow suit faster than a fat man at a buffet line. Now, that's not to say that some people didn't deserve it and that even on a rare occasion most of the media wasn't wrong but I mean, to me, it seems that the media takes the opportunity to use a smear tactic above actually writing something GOOD for a change. I can't handle the bulk of sports writers who follow the Browns, and I chose to read The Cleveland Frowns blog to get my taste of Cleveland Browns journalism, because it's better written that most of the crap Grossi or Mary Kay spews. Let's be honest with ourselves, we're frustrated. We want a winner, we don't like seeing the team get beat down 40+ points to 9 by our most hated rival. That loss probably was the final nail in the coffin and I would bet if we had played a strong game to close out the year we may have not be needing to fuel the Head Coach discussion fire, again, something I shouldn't be dwelling on. Point is, Flug, I agree with you and I'm in the exact same boat you are but it's time to take a deep breath and look forward. It sucks, it's frustrating but it's all part of being a Browns fan.
__________________ BROWNS 2012: We have our "New Offense" It's Put up or shut up time. Weeden gives us a QB with skills McCoy does not have. Richardson gives us a HB with abilities the Browns have not seen in decades! The message is clear, we want to score more than 13.6 PPG this year. WOOF WOOF WOOF! ![]() |
