Default Brown's Draft - Offense or Defense?

I thought this may be a interesting topic for discussion. I know a lot depends on who the coach is going to be and what kind of defensive system he might want to run but taking all that into consideration, which way do you think the team should go?

Do you fix one side of the ball or try to patch both sides knowing that we have a lot of needs.

How about a WR and RT to give McCoy weapon and give the young QB better protection. I just can't see the guy being successful with a guy like St Clair out at RT. I don't know if you can count on Pashos ever being healthy for a full season.

or

Do you go DE/OLB and DB. I think the defense needs players at all positions. Defensive line is a big priority especially if the new coach wants to go with a 4-3. This teams rally needs an impact player at LB. Fujita is good but he isn't that impact guy like a Ray Lewis or Harrison or Mathews. We also have to have another DB. Brown started to show his age this year and may be better as a FS then a corner. We definately need another young corner.

I'm not saying we have to take all defense or all offense but this teams needs impact players on both sides of the ball. Where do you go with the top couple of picks? Or, do you just go "Best Player Available".

This is very hard because we don't really know what a new coach will preceive as our biggest needs, which could be based on the system he want to put in on both sides of the ball.

Through the draft and FA we got to get:

#1 WR - Got to have a guy who commands double coverage and can stretch the field.

RT - You can't have a young QB running for his life like McCoy had to do against Pitts.

DE - no matter which system (4-3 or 3-4) we got to have better play up front. We are old and slow. Rogers is done. We need two guys even if we stay in a 3-4.

OLB/ILB - got to have someone who can consistantly put pressure on the QB. Someone the offense has to look for to see where he is lined up at. A Clay Mathews. Someone who wants to separate your head from your body.

CB - Got to get someone to play along side Haden.

There are other positions that need upgraded or have to develop some depth and we need to address some of the FAs that we have.

Which avenue would you take?

He isn't any of those guys, but we sure felt the impact of losing him.

I gotta go with offense as a bigger priority this year.

Yes we have a lot of holes, but we did do some upgrades to defense last year, and I think we can make more strides maybe in FA.

We need more offensive weapons.

The Browns have been as ugly as Madonna's arms on offense and its points that put the asses in the seats.
Offense is where the bulk of the building blocks will go this year.

No no no the only problem with the Offense was Eric Mangini and Brian Daboll. The new offensive guru brought in will have us looking like Joe Montana's 49ers. Who needs players?

Agree with golf. We should by dynamic on offense next year regardless of adding any pieces. After all, we were pretty dynamic this year with McCoy at the helm before all the injuries.

I'll take BPA at an area of need. My guess is in the first round that will be either WR, DE, or CB. With luck not coming out, I'm thinking it'll be DE or CB.

Didn't someone say this draft class was deep in offensive types?

That would definitely provide more of a chance that BPA is an offensive type guy, wouldn't it?

Alot of the guys I'm interested in probably won't be free-agents for long. Woodley and Harris are guy we HAVE to get. But like I sid, they won't be on the market for long

Everything the OP said plus i would like to see RB john clay in the 4th/5th as insurance for Hillis. But i would like to see Defense first. Thing is improving the defence is gonna improve our offense getting the ball back and getting more opportunities. Make one side Dominant. Either way i trust Heckert to have a badass draft so im happy.

I agree with and echo what BPP said - you take BPA and I think that it will be a 3-4 DE, CB, or WR just depends on how those in front of us pick. Any one of them fills a big hole and you couldn't go wrong.
