Default PGL's 2011 Draft, Player Lovefest, Come get you some...

So I guess I supposedly have this penchant for "falling in love" with certain players, and that I just focus all of my attention to one guy here or there. It got me to thinking... you know... Its not fair to just hold in all of my repressed feelings for other players littered throughout the draft, I need to be more open with you guys, and let you in. Here I have compiled a LONG detailed collection of players that I just CANT resist this year. Have fun! I might also come out with a calendar for those of you who are into that sort of thing.

These players may not necessarily be the top rated at their positions (or they may very well be), but they are guys that I think have something to bring to the table in the NFL and may be better than they are projected....

Quarterbacks

Jake Locker

Okay heres the deal, Jake Locker, no matter which way you slice it, is an Elite Prospect. He runs a 4.4 40yd, he's agile, escapes the pressure, has a great arm, and the guy (whether it matters or not) is ripped. I would also like to metion that his team is absolutely awful, he has NO weapons, NO protection, and yet he has still beat USC twice, and has thrown a carreer total of 53 touchdown passes, and thrown for 7,639 yards. He has also RUN for 29 touchdowns and close to 1800 yards. Thts crazy production. He really rallies his team in close and important games and seems to beat all odds to make a play (ala Roethlisberger). The problem is, he has a terrible completion percentage in the high 50's in his carreer. The question is... is this due to his team being overmatched every sunday, and his WR's dropping balls? Or is it all him? Can it be fixed? Mike Vick seemed to fix it.

This Vid Highlights his passing, but also has some pretty sweet runs in it as well

Andy Dalton

I dont know why this guy isnt up higher on most people's draft boards, his production is great! Not to mention his completion percentage went up EVERY YEAR, this year ending with 66%. He has good zip on his passes and he's fairly accurate. Not to mention the guy threw 27 touchdowns and only 6 ints this season. Last season it was 23/8. Guy smells like a sleeper to me.

Wide Receivers

Jonathan Baldwin

This guy is a freak, he's a late round 1 prospect, maybe he falls to the second. At 6'5 230 lbs. with a 4.4 40yd... he's pretty much the perfect build and athleticism. It doesnt end there, he has great hands, great concentration, and a CRAZY verticle. The only downside, is that he runs bad routes. But thankfully, thats something he can improve on with better coaching. When categorizing him, think of a more athletic version of Vincent Jackson.

Titus Young

Let me be honest here, I want the brown to draft this guy. He's 5"11 190lbs and 4.43 speed. I see an Ochocinco/Desean Jackson Hybrid. Titus' COD skills are impeccable, he has great hands, he's pretty fast, he gets YAC, he returns kicks, he does it all. He has some character concerns (Alo let me know he was suspended in 08, by his coach, he was in the doghouse), and some ball security issues (ala stuckey) but this guy is a true talent, DEDICATED to his craft, and wants it all, plus his CONSISTENT stats back up his physical abilities.

Matt Szczur

Another poster showed me this guy, and I instantly wanted him on our squad. He is a HIGH character guy, with alot of talent. He doubles as a Runningback and Receiver (returns kicks too). He doesnt have the numbers to back up his talent, but he has only played 2 seasons, and has yet to have his gifts truely tapped. He's consistent, he fights, HARD for yardage, and he's pretty quick, think Wes Welker/Josh Cribbs mix.

DeAndre Brown

Another freak. 6'6 230lbs and fast. He had a pretty nasty leg injury
where his shin snapped in half a few years back, he has the injury bug, but every time he's on the field he puts up numbers. He's got the hands, and all the skills, but the injuries will have him drop to rounds 5-6.

Runningbacks

Kendall Hunter

Sometimes big things come in small packages. At 5'8 190 I can see the NFL coaches bulking him up and him becoming the next MJD, because he plays just like him. He's not afraid of contact, and he'll go between the tackles, as well as using his blazing speed on the outside. Look for Heckert to potentially like this guy. His best asset, is his vision, he weaves between blocks and tackles extremely well knowing exactly where daylight is.

Derrick Locke

A late round guy with electrifying speed. He is another small guy that also doesn't shy away from contact. Not an every down back, but a great receiving back and change of pace guy. One stanout feature is that he has incredible balance, he gets knocked around like a ping pong ball at 5'9 190, but he stays on his feet.

Defense coming tomorrow people.... and as a preview... I will say nothing spins my footballs more than a hard hitting linebacker with an NFL lineage

ROTFL DUDE,

I haven't yet looked through the players. But I have to say kudos on the starting paragraph on the thread. I needed that laugh today. I applaud you taking yourself not too seriously!!

Nice work. I like Baldwin & Brown. I have a feeling Baldwin is going to climb up the draft board with all of these receivers deciding to stay in school.

Good stuff.

On Locker, I am sure he can be fixed, over time. I'd hardly call Vick's accuracy "fixed". He was improved this season, but he still has a lot of really inaccurate throws. Especially in the playoff game. Locker is going to need a lot of work and time to sit. This season showed the "experts" were way off that he was ready to be the #1 over all pick last year. He will be lucky to go in round 1 this year.

Rb's...give me Stevan Ridley or kendall hunter(2nd/3rd rd) and we are set at RB for 7 years. Take the top rated wr...in second round = #1 receiver in other drafts and will be on#1wr on browns... love Austin Pettis boise.(not positive if available tho) I think we are in a great position to get Quinn from UNC... In my opinion, if we got Quinn,Pettis and ridley...I'd say its the best draft we've had since we came back....

Also would love to have (Quan Sturdivant) LB UNC.... hell there are 4 guys on UNC coming out I'd like to have... I, like you PGL, like Dalton in 4th or 5th round...I think he'll be a good pro...sleeper.I'd be happy with a bookend corner and another safety too...I hope and pray we do not draft Mallett(he is a diva/ Prick /Ahole)jmo... Newton is intriguing but we seem to miss on our gambles...(see forever) Patrick petersen or prince, meh....not sexy but I can live with it...seems like fairley is out of reach , same with bowers...QUINN is my first choice(year out of football hurts a little but he is a fking monster!!!,,,,caveat(RIGHT NOW) LOTS will Change...as usual. Kendall hunter along side hillis and hardesty is my long shot dream!

great job Kiddo!...Titus Young at 5'11 just seems a tad small for the WCO wich focuses primarily on big physical YAC WR's anywjhere from 6'2 on up.....WCO as you know is ball control passing and timed route running....but for a guy in the slot Im down with it...hes probably already better than chansi stucky LOL

still workin on the TE's and Defense guys, its coming

The reason I think we will Select Young is because of the types of WR's Heckert drafted for philly

Desean Jackson, and Jeremy Maclin

Both Smaller guys, both fast, both have YAC ability

If we had a #1 WR and were looking for support, I'd see NOT taking him with our first pick. But because we don't even know if there's a #2 on the roster... because McCoy's progress is probably the X factor of the whole season... because this is Holmgren's team now, transitioning to his offense... because Shurmur is from the offensive side of the ball... because we went defense 1-2 last year...

I don't see us NOT taking a WR at #6 or in a small trade-down. I just can't fathom it. If A.J. Green is there, it's a sprint to the podium. But I think the same is true for Julio Jones. Not gonna draft Young to be our #1 WR.

I could see Oklahoma DE Jeremy Beal in round 2. He's at 6'3" and 267 and can get to the quarterback really well. Let him add five pounds and he's ideal. Get a linebacker who can cover in round 3. That's going 1-2 and 2-3 on defense in successive years in a passing league.

TIGHT ENDS

Kyle Rudolph

In all honesty, even though I think we have two great tight ends in Watson and Evan Moore... Kyle Rudolph is a crazy cool Antonio Gates/ Jason Witten Hybrid who I have NO doubt will be a perennial pro bowler, and we should consider making a move on. This guy is HUGE. At 6'7 260lbs with a 4.5 40yd....... This guy is a MONSTER. He has hands like Pillows (think Kellen), runs great routes with great speed (think Gates), and has a big enough frame and strength to toss the occasional DE around. He will no doubt be the first TE taken, where he goes is a mystery since TE's are drafted later.
Take a look at these vids... a 95 yd reception.... for a fricken TE..... Insane

Schuylar Oordt

Late round prospect with goo size (6ft 6) and good speed (4.5). He's a great red zone target, but comes from a smaller school, and has solid statistics but not amazing. He's a great project, and could be something like what evan moore is for us.
