Now I know this might sound crazy but I could see us drafting DL back to back in rounds 1 and 2 mainly if we switch back to a 4-3. Particularly if a top DL fell into the second round such as a Clayborn or Heyward. If the board falls this way than I could see a WR or LB in round three. In FA I could see us picking up a WR, LB, OL, and CB/S. I'm not saying this should happen but I could see us going this way especially after last year we pick to positions in the secondary with back to back picks. I guess it depends on if Bowers or Fairley fall to us with the #6 pick but since I don't see that happening this is probably just some crazy theory.

I'd say we have plenty of defensive tackles for the 4-3 (Rubin, Coleman, probably Robaire, maybe Rogers, Shaefering, Ivey, etc.). I could see Benard as a pass rush specialist, something I keep reading about for old whatisname's defenses. Matt Roth seems like an ideal 4-3 DE, almost a prototype, but I'm not sure we'll get him resigned. I'm betting we bring in at least a couple DL in free agency and draft a DE, too. Tough to say which linebackers translate well to the 4-3, but I'm sure we'll find a place for Gocong and Fujita. Feels like we need an OLB who can cover. Again, Heckert said there would be a LOT of turnover, so I think we'll be very busy in free agency. He also basically called the team "old," so say goodbye to Bowens and Barton and a couple of the excess DTs. With McCoy sounding like a centerpiece, surrounded by a WCO think tank (Mike McCoy perhaps joining in), I really don't expect us to pass on a WR in round one unless we can't get to either Green or Jones, and that's not gonna happen. I'm betting one or the other ends up in an orange helmet. Baldwin is the consolation prize but it would take a trade-up. My guess is we go WR-DE-RT-OLB in the first four rounds. We need to get REALLY busy in free agency, but that could get disrupted. It could be a very busy, exciting offseason if the NFL gets its shit together. |

I have mixed emotions but I think offense or defense..WR or DE I'll be happy either way...or RT or OLB..If our 11 draft turns out half as good as 10...I'll be pretty happy with that.

Offense is all free agents: agents 2-3 WR's (it's a great free agent class for WR's) the come in and compete with who we have..not that there will be much.. Robo and Momass may not make the roster..that's ok so long as we are better.. ,one RT (27 or younger), and one backup Center.. Defense the entire draft... top 3 in the front 7 then BPA from there (unless you can get that Prince whateverhislastname is..then take him at corner with the 1st pick. . simple but effective.

I don't know alot about who is slated for what rounds and so on. Since I think AJ Green will be gone when we pick - I'd like us to pick WR Julio Jones. The 6'4" frame really makes him a nice target for our young QB. When we lost so many games by 1 or 2 big plays - I think we need someone that will impact scoreboard at #6 overall. I wouldn't have any objections to Nick Fairley at #6 overall either. In big games, he was a difference maker. In round 3 - I wouldn't mind us snagging the next generation of Clay Matthews - Casey Matthews. He made some pretty BIG plays vrs Auburn. Unfortunately I don't really know who is available and what rounds they will be slated for. Here's a cut and paste of the goodies I found on Rivals.com. RIVALS.COM FIRST-TEAM ALL-AMERICA OFFENSE QB Cam Newton, Auburn Particulars: 6-6/250, Jr.; Blinn College (Texas), preceded by Atlanta Westlake Buzz: Newton arrived as the most touted JC transfer in the nation, but no one expected this. He is just the third quarterback in FBS history with 20 rushing TDs and 20 passing TDs in the same season. He leads the SEC in rushing with 1,409 yards and has thrown for 2,589 yards. RB LaMichael James, Oregon Particulars: 5-9/185, Soph.; Texarkana (Texas) Liberty-Eylau Buzz: James is one of the most explosive players in the country. He leads the nation with 1,682 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns and averages 5.99 yards per carry. He's rushed for at least 91 yards in every game he's played and scored at least one touchdown in every game but one in which he's appeared. RB Jordan Todman, Connecticut Particulars: 5-9/193, Jr.; North Dartmouth (Mass.) Dartmouth Buzz: Todman split carries last season with Andre Dixon, but Todman proved he could carry the load this season. He averaged 143.0 yards per game with 14 touchdowns for the BCS-bound Huskies with the second-most carries (302) in the nation despite missing one game. WR Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State Particulars: 6-1/205, Soph.; Ardmore (Okla.) Plainview Buzz: After a non-descript first season, Blackmon emerged as the nation's most productive receiver this season. He has 102 receptions for 1,665 yards and a national-best 18 touchdowns in 11 games. He had at least 105 receiving yards in every game. WR Ryan Broyles, Oklahoma Particulars: 5-11/183, Jr.; Norman (Okla.) High Buzz: Extremely explosive, Broyles leads the nation with 118 receptions. A three-year starter for the Sooners, he has 1,452 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns this season. WR Alshon Jeffery, South Carolina Particulars: 6-4/233, Soph.; St. Matthews (S.C.) Calhoun County Buzz: Jeffery came on at the end of last season as a true freshman, then burst onto the national scene this season. He is a huge, physical wide receiver, with great hands and good speed. He has 79 receptions for 1,387 yards and nine TDs. He has had seven 100-yard games. T Gabe Carimi, Wisconsin Particulars: 6-7/327, Sr.; Monona (Wis.) Monona Grove Buzz: He helped pave the way for a rushing attack that ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten (247.4 ypg). Carimi is the latest in a long line of dominating Badgers offensive tackles, and he's a road-grader in the running game. T Derek Sherrod, Mississippi State Particulars: 6-6/305, Sr.; Columbus (Miss.) Caledonia Buzz: Sherrod is a big guy who can move. He is a three-year starter for the Bulldogs, who are second in the SEC in rushing at 215.8 yards per game. He is equally adept in run blocking and pass protection. G Rodney Hudson, Florida State Particulars: 6-2/282, Sr.; Mobile (Ala.) B.C. Rain Buzz: This four-year starter has won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, given annually to the ACC's top offensive lineman in each of the past two seasons. Hudson, an Outland Trophy finalist, was named the ACC offensive lineman of the week for his performances in victories over BYU and Miami. G John Moffitt, Wisconsin Particulars: 6-5/323, Sr.; West Haven (Conn.) Notre Dame Buzz: Moffitt, a three-year starter for the Badgers, is another vital part of a line that has opened holes for three backs who have rushed for at least 800 yards apiece. C Chase Beeler, Stanford Particulars: 6-3/285, Sr.; Jenks (Okla.) High Buzz: A stalwart along the Cardinal line, Beeler is strong, quick, smart and experienced. He anchored an offensive front that paved the way for a 1,000-yard rusher and a 3,000-yard passer. Stanford has allowed just five sacks this season. RIVALS.COM FIRST-TEAM ALL-AMERICA DEFENSE E Da'Quan Bowers, Clemson Particulars: 6-4/275, Jr.; Bamberg (S.C.) Bamberg-Ehrhardt Buzz: Bowers leads the nation with 15.5 sacks -- 2.5 more than anyone else -- and ranks second nationally with 25 tackles for loss. He also has 67 overall tackles, an unusually high number for a lineman. T Jared Crick, Nebraska Particulars: 6-6/285, Jr.; Cozad (Neb.) High Buzz: A force in the Huskers' interior line. Crick has 63 tackles -- a high amount for a tackle. He also has 16 tackles for loss, including 9.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. T Nick Fairley, Auburn Particulars: 6-5/298, Jr.; Copiah-Lincoln CC (Miss.), preceded by Mobile (Ala.) Williamson Buzz: Fairley -- who has been criticized by some for being overly aggressive -- has been a big-play machine for the Tigers. He has 10.5 sacks, 21 tackles for loss and an incredible 21 quarterback hurries; those are unreal numbers for a defensive tackle. E Ryan Kerrigan, Purdue Particulars: 6-4/263, Sr.; Muncie (Ind.) Central Buzz: A pure dominator, Kerrigan ranked first in the nation in tackles for loss with 26 and third in sacks with 12.5. He also has forced five fumbles, giving him 14 of those in the past three seasons. And he did it all with zero help from teammates on a moribund Purdue defense. LB Lavonte David, Nebraska Particulars: 6-1/210, Jr.; Fort Scott (Kan.) CC, preceded by Miami Northwestern Buzz: He has made an enormous impact in his first season since transferring from junior college. The speedy David leads the Big 12 with 145 total tackles and has 14 tackles for loss and six sacks. LB Mason Foster, Washington Particulars: 6-2/242, Sr.; Seaside (Calif.) High Buzz: A hard-nosed playmaker, Foster has made 151 tackles, second-most in the nation. He had at least 10 tackles in 11 games, has recorded 14 tackles for loss, forced two fumbles and blocked a kick. LB Luke Kuechly, Boston College Particulars: 6-3/235, Soph.; Cincinnati St. Xavier Buzz: Kuechly leads the nation in solo tackles (102) and total tackles (171) while spearheading the nation's top-ranked run defense. He has recorded at least 10 tackles in 21 consecutive games, which is the nation's longest current streak in that category. CB Prince Amukamara, Nebraska Particulars: 6-1/205, Sr.; Glendale (Ariz.) Apollo Buzz: Perhaps the best cover corner in the nation, Amukamara broke up 13 passes and was the leader of one of the nation's best pass defenses. He also has made 58 tackles. CB Patrick Peterson, LSU Particulars: 6-1/222, Jr.; Pompano Beach (Fla.) Ely Buzz: He's the prototypical shutdown corner -- great size, big-time speed, physical and good hands. Teams have shied away from throwing at his side, but he has four interceptions and six pass breakups, and he also has made 36 tackles. FS Tejay Johnson, TCU Particulars: 6-1/212, Sr.; Garland (Texas) South Garland Buzz: Johnson has three interceptions and has forced three fumbles to go along with his 56 tackles. He was selected as one of three finalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, given annually to the nation's top defensive back. SS Ahmad Black, Florida Particulars: 5-9/190, Sr.; Lakeland (Fla.) High Buzz: Black, a three-year starter, was the Gators' MVP this season. He's not the fastest or the biggest guy, but he has great instincts. He led Florida in tackles with 102 and also had three picks, three pass breakups, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, a sack and nine tackles for loss. RIVALS.COM FIRST-TEAM ALL-AMERICA SPECIALISTS K Alex Henery, Nebraska Particulars: 6-2/175, Sr.; Omaha (Neb.) Burke Buzz: Almost automatic, Henery converted 18-of-19 field-goal attempts and hit all 16 from inside 50 yards. His one miss was a 51-yard attempt that was blocked. He also did a solid job as the Huskers' punter. P Chas Henry, Florida Particulars: 6-3/215, Sr.; Dallas (Ga.) East Paulding Buzz: Henry leads the nation in punting at 46.4 yards per boot and is the major reason the Gators also lead the nation in net punting at 45.8 yards per attempt. He was pressed into double-duty as the Gators' field-goal kicker, with mixed results. KR Jeremy Kerley, TCU Particulars: 5-10/192, Sr.; Hutto (Texas) High Buzz: Kerley, a wide receiver by trade, ranks 18th nationally in kickoff-return average (28.0) and 17th in punt-return average (12.93). LSU's Patrick Peterson is the only other FBS player to rank among the nation's top 20 returners in each category. PR Cliff Harris, Oregon Particulars: 5-11/180, Soph.; Fresno (Calif.) Edison Buzz: The Ducks were in scoring position any time their defense forced a punt. Harris, who also starts at cornerback, averages 19.5 yards per punt return and has taken back four for touchdowns, two more than anyone else in the country.

Here is more on my plan: It always depends upon free agency of course.. but my plan is Free agency is offense all the way.. draft is defense all the way. IMO we need to fill 6-8 starting spots minimum.. you cannot do that with just the draft.. you have to be a big player in free agency..I know it's not the answer..but it can take a team like ours a good way in the right direction. Just for this first year...future..is always via the draft.. Myself.. if I am Heckert, I load up on Free agent WR's..It is a VERY good free agent class... I mean bring in a minimum of three and don't be cheap.. go get some talent. Other than 2-3 guys this is just an average draft class at WR IMO...So I take that out of the draft equasion right away... It's dumb to bank on getting the one or two guys that are stars in the draft and come up empty handed if you don't get them... ..or have to give up too much in order to get them by moving up...so I say forget the rookie WR's. and go free agency. I want us to go get three of these 9 F/A WR's to compete with who we have... Santonio Holmes, Vincent Jackson, Malcom Floyd, Steve Smith, Legadu Nannee, James Jones, Steve Breaston, Mike Simms Walker, and Lance Moore. (this is not an exhaustive list..as I said..it's a good F/A class) We could probably get away with 2 of these guys...but 3 sounds like a a major upgrade/overhaul which I believe we need. But we must get a legitimate #1 and #2.. possibly a #3 (as I said..we could get by with 2 of these 9 guys I listed) I would also bring in a younger RT like a Jared Gaither from Balt. or a guy like Roland from Cinci, (however if Lauvao can nail down RT..we could survive with Pokechop/Pashos at RT one more season..but I'd rather get better at RT.. and send Pashos and St Clair out to pasture. That's where my Free agency dollar goes.. on the offensive side of the ball. Possibly a RB depending upon what Hardesty looks like in the offseason. With the WR position addressed fully in free agency, Heckert can focus the draft on spots of great need.. DE'S..plural... LB'ers plural, CB, and S... There are great DE's and Corners at the top of round one..so we could go either way with our first pick.. but we must build the front 7.. and get at least one more CB.. Offense in free agency.. Defense for the draft. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. This plan = double our wins in 2011

So long as we walk away with Casey Matthews, a rt and a wr in the 1st 3 rounds I'll be THRILLED. I know dire need dictates otherwise on drafting a lb, but Casey is just so instinctive and has such a great first step he's going to be a guy that's going to play for you 8-12 years and you never have to worry about him out there, and that is worth a pick because sometimes best player available will help you more than biggest need. You draft solely off of need and you wind up reaching and missing out on some really good guys. I'd also like to see us take another back in the 4th or 5th depending on who is left and it's not a reach, plus drag in a pair of FA wrs to shake lose the dead weight. Oh how I'd love a pass rushing de, another dt, another safety, another corner, an og/c type, an additional tackle and another te since Moore just can't stay healthy but we don't have enough picks and we're devoid of depth and average at best on talent in most positions and we're not filling all of that in a draft, though the de and dt will probably be easier to fill with later round picks in a 4-3 than a 3-4 because colleges run the 4-3 and you see these kids play it. There's no transitioning and you know what they can do already, no "probably is a good fit for the 3-4". I'd love to see us go single gab 3-4, but we don't have the talent and a 4-3 would be a faster fit and be easier to evaluate talent for. You ever go to your cupboards and you're out of everything? Where the hell do you start? Flour, sugar, salt, pepper canned veggies? Only got $30? We're in that position right now, we're starving for talent and we've got nada. We go with the staples, maybe trade down a time or two and grab a few bonus guys, add core players, decent depth, and try to make a shepherd's pie with the leftovers from the freezer to get us by.

Whoa, I just possessed Tom Heckert! I'm like a demon or something. That's goddamn awesome. Holy shit look at all these pens I've got in my pocket. This one is made out of solid gold. I think I'll use it for toilet paper. This nametag on my desk sucks. *tosses to ground* I'll put up a giant 50 foot billboard outside Berea that reads, "Demon Crow Tom Heckert resides here." Then I'll get lots of fake blood and pentagrams and make them our uniforms. Brown and Orange never appealed me anyway. Maybe I'll move the team to Mexico City, Mexico like I did in Madden 2011! OK well we got some picks or something but I hate college football and giving an effort so I'm going to trade all my draft picks to move up in the first round and draft a back up center. Can't enough depth at center, that's the anchor at the line. I'll also trade the guys on defense, because I don't understand how defense works and it bores me. I'll target Ocho Cinco because he's funny and we could like, have a TV show. "The Oh-So-Fun-Show-With-Crow-and-Ocho!" Then we could get our popcorn ready and put Terrel Owen's corpse on the roster as well. As for quarterback, McCoy seems cool and everything, but I could trade him for a wide receiver so he's gone. I'll go to free agency this time. Let's commit 30 million dollars to bring Brett Favre out of retirement, he's a FA this year. Pat Shurmur is OK but I really don't love the dude so I'll fire him right away. I'll say he slept with Kokinis in the office or something. All right let's get rid of Mike Holmgren because he can exert authority of me and I'm a goddamn rebel so I don't need authority. I'll rehire Phil Savage and he can be like, the figurehead the Browns need. Their Football Batman. I'll be the insane psychopath behind the curtain, the Karl Rove of the Browns. Now I'll hire Jimmy Johnson because he won a lot of super bowls and I enjoyed watching him on survivor. He has nice abs. If he doesn't want to come I'll just throw money at him until he does. I mean he endorses Extenze, doesn't he? He has no dignity. Since all I have to worry about now is two first round picks in the draft (can't be assed with all that scouting) I'll call up the head of the scouting department, Playground Legend. He can pick whoever. Hopefully it's two wide receivers, I love those guys lol. We don't even need an offensive line just get like 10 wide receivers and a big armed strong quarterback and just throw it to the endzone EVERY PLAY. Oh shit Derek is going to be available again I bet Jimmy Johnson can coach him up he'll be a great backup if Favre gets injured or retires or something. I hope $10 million is enough to convince him to sign here. Heh. Maybe I'll coach the team myself. I've done such a good job setting all this up, I mean, why let Jimmy Johnson get all the credit? I'm better than Mike Holmgren. I'm goddamn Demon Crow Tom Heckert, I've got the powers of Hell to boost my football acumen. I should coach the team myself. Show up the 2007 Pats and go 19-0. Then, after that, I'll parlay my six super bowl wins into a run for the presidency. I'll dismantle the constitution install myself as emperor of North America, conquering Canada and Mexico. But first, I gotta get a new solid gold pen. I used this one all up...

Every time I watch LBers like the 3rd generation of Clay Matthews and Lamar Woodley defining why their teams LOVE the 3-4, I can only say we had our chances. Casey Matthews caused a huge fumble from Cam Newton late in the Bowl Game stopping one drive and he stopped a 3rd and short on another drive. I don't get the impression he's gonna turn in a "wow" performance at the Indy combines which is actually GOOD news if we want to STEAL this kid. The film shows how important 1st step instinct is to a play that only lasts 2-4 seconds tops. I don't give a rate what he can run straight ahead. That one Indy combine assessment helped put a wonderful football player like Joe haden on our doostep. Justt out of curiosity - how many plays did he have to line up in a sprinter's stance and run a 40 yard straight line sprint? I don't think I saw it once as he's in the rookie of the year discussions today.
