Fans are raging about the hiring of Brian Daboll as the new Miami Dolphins Offensive Coordinator. This is just a few snippets from the first page. Gotta love the first reply. ![]() Brian Daboll new dolphins OC I'm currently reading through 11 pages (and counting) of hilarity. Now, you never know... Daboll could pull a Bruce Arians and suddenly turn sweet with more talent at his disposal, but I'm guessing that's not going to happen. I dunno, call me crazy... but I'm going with a no. I wonder how much influence Tony Sparano will let Daboll have on the playbook. Would Daboll will try to instill his ideals into Miami's offense? I think it's funny.... imagine a team like Miami, who is known for the Wildcat, now has Daboll, who never ran the Wildcat here despite all the pre-season talk about the Wildcat and how much it was gonna own with Cribbs/Wallace. I wonder how much they'll still run the package now.... And what about Henne? He's got a nice arm, and receivers to throw to, but Daboll doesn't like to throw downfield. I'll be keeping a curious eye on Miami next season, if only for the laughs. This is a great test for us Browns fans. Now we can see if Daboll is actually capable of performing better with more talent around him. I can't wait to see what I find on other Miami Dolphins message boards. My heart goes out to you, Miami fans. I feel your pain!

The only thing Dolphins fans have to go on is what they read and heard from Browns fans - most of whom are mistaken that it was Daboll's fault here in Cleveland. Daboll's got a new job and Shurmur is now a head coach - despite about 80% of their former fan bases blaming all their former offenses' struggles on them. That's because those fans were WRONG. |

i don't think all of the offensive woes can be pinned on Daboll but it does come as a pretty big shock that he was picked up so quickly as a coordinator. maybe he's one of those people who interviews really well! LOL

Takes more than a dope calling plays no matter who you have on the field. Posted via Barking Hard Mobile |

~I swear I could bring up an endless amount of reasons that support the fact that Daboll was just not very good at handling our offense, and didn't know how to effectively use what little talent he had. Even Holmgren was quick to call Rob Ryan a good coordinator in the bye week interview, but only described Daboll as a hard working guy who tries a lot. Holmgren also alluded to the press that he has gotten angry and raised his voice at Daboll over his offensive schemes and plays. Obviously Holmgren is not going to undermine and insult his own OC to the press but it's easy to see that Holmgren did not agree with Daboll. The fact that we canned him so fast shows that Holmgren did not think Daboll could get the job done, talent or not. ~His cyclone package, which recieved tons of press in the preseason, was poorly implemented and we ran it once a game, or less and we never got more than a few yards out of it. Daboll had no idea how to implement Cribbs in the offense, never got him into open space where he could make plays, and never let him use his agility to his advantage. We never once gave Cribbs a screen pass with downfield blockers. This would be great for Cribbs as it would let him run down field in space and with protection, similar to a kick return. If we handed the ball to him, it was up the middle and who the hell sends a WR/QB hybrid up the middle like a friggen running back? ~Daboll called run run pass punt 6 times in the Jacksonville game alone. I remember because I made a thread about it. That's 6 3-and-outs on identical sets of plays. We never tried to change our gameplan when it was obvious that the Jags were stuffing the run. Who knows how many times the rest of the season we ran ran pass punted our way to mediocrity? ~Daboll stopped using Vickers to block for Hillis mid-way through the season, and Hillis stopped getting 100+ yards a game. Big surprise. Vickers wasn't even used to block for Hillis when it was 3rd and goal on the 1 yard line. We sent Vickers to the outside and Hillis up the middle, and Hillis got stuffed. ~Our receivers may suck, but even if they were open, they weren't getting the ball due to Daboll's checkdowns which passed over the WRs in favor of the TE and RB. In Daboll's schemes, we would dump off for a 3 yard pass even if receivers were open downfield because the QBs weren't even looking downfield in the first place. You could see this if you followed the QB's vision and saw who he was looking at during a play. ~Daboll doesn't make game-time adjustments. That is not an exaggeration, either. Don't believe me? That quote in my signature... that's not fake and not taken out of context. He really said that when talking about making adjustments during a game, and he meant it. Brian Daboll couldn't coordinate his way out of a paper bag. What's your side of the story?

Damn... just... wow. I read something about this in the forum chat but I had no idea this was legitimate. So much for Miami hitting the next level any time soon. This is a surprising hire for a team that had so much offensive inconsistency to go and hire the guy who coached, what, the worst offense in the NFL? Wow. Is Dabs going to be calling the plays for Miami like he was here?

Point being, Shurmur is a case in point. 2009 Rams offense was #32. In 2010 with Bradford they progressed well where he got noticed as a good coordinator. Sometimes it may just be the players you coach rather then how good of a coach you are. We'll see about Daboll. I didn't like him in Cleveland but it will be interesting to see what kind of offense he can put on the field in Miami. |
