Default Brad Seely no longer with team

Another questionable move by the new HC!

BEREA -- A Browns sourced confirmed to The Plain Dealer that special teams coordinator Brad Seely has left the team.
The Browns offered to retain Seely but agreed not to block him from leaving.
Under Seely, the Browns' special teams were ranked No. 1 overall in 2009 in the formula devised by Dallas Morning News football writer Rick Gosselin that includes 22 statistical categories. They dropped from that perch in 2010, but still were in the top third of the NFL.
As assistant head coach to Eric Mangini, Seely enjoyed substantial influence on the makeup of the team's final roster. Seely was able to bolster his units with several players who specialized in kicking games.
Seely was rumored to be talking with the San Francisco 49ers, but the club has made no announcement.

Why is it a questionable move by the new HC. It was known that Seely only came because of Mangini. Like, Ryan, he had no intent on staying under a new staff.

Mangini, Ryan and Seely were a team. One goes and the rest follow.

Sorry man but you can't throw that on Shurmur. You don't keep coaches that don't want to be there.

I loved the guy but he made it clear when he left NE to join Mangini that it was because of his relationship with both Mangini and Ryan that he came here. He burned a bridge with Belichick to come here.

nope it lies directly on the shoulders of Holmgren when our Special teams, and Defense suffer next year.

Why would you stop a guy from moving on.. forcing him to stay is no way to build a staff. Seems to me from the article we wanted to keep him.

Shit bed. I was pretty sure he would be gone but it is another thing hitting home. Dawson is most likely gone (I still don't get that BTW), Cribbs is injury prone and getting older, going to the 4/3 will limit a lot of athleticism on ST's and who is to say Hodges will ever have another season like he just had.

The one area we have been as good as anybody in the league may go to suckage because of all of this change, and Golf pegged it, that falls on the Walrus directly.

Pathetically, our special teams were really um, special. For a while in 2009 the special teams seemed to have a better chance to score a TD than the offense. To Y-town and Sez who say just roll with it - when someone like Joe Thomas (let's hope not but you know what I mean) walks away in FA I'll be there to remind you you just sign someone else and move on.

It's official, Brad Sealy was hired by the 49'ers, good luck to him - he was an asset to the Browns while here.

Major bummer to see Seely move on but I have a hunch perhaps a pay raise was in order and maybe $$$ lured Brad to San Fran.

We'll get a new ST coach and move on, what else is there to do really?

We had a pretty good draft, and I'd like to start seeing some results.
Fans already looking to next year and I don't blame them.
I think we will have things to be excited about that we lacked last year and we have some real facepalm moments just like last year.
It's going to be tough.
We aren't Barking Hard for nothing.

Jax..I understand your frustration, but you don't know Seely's personal motivation for leaving. Sometimes it's beyond football ..like family in the area, aging parent, wife's family is out there.. or other personal situations that cause people to leave... He WAS asked to stay.. certainly his agent could ask for a raise.. that usually gets some press because the agent makes sure of it..but there was nothing.. We ALLOWED him to interview.. no one wants someone who does not want to be there... He decided to leave... So we have no choice but to get someone else..Plenty of smart capable coaches out there. Remember there are only 32 NFL special teams jobs in the WORLD... people want them. Especially superior college guys who want to move up to the next level.. Special teams in college are the same as they are in the nfl. It's not like being a player..the game is essentially the same.

Players are different..they are even more restricted in movement.. Thomas has always said he loves it here..We start winning he will like it even more.. if not....franchise tag...
