The Cleveland Browns met with free-agent FS Ko Simpson (Lions) earlier this week, a source told Adam Caplan, of FOXSports.com.

Anybody is an upgrade because we really don't have a FS unless you count Mike Adams as a FS. Both Ward and Elam are more like SSs. Changing over to a 4-3 means we need to upgrade the position. Moving Brown there might be the answer but we would need a starting corner then.

So, yes Ko Simpson is an upgrade over Ray Ventrone in my book.

With Holmgren and Heckert character issues will still be very important. I don't expect to see this team bring in headache type guys or prima donnas just because Mangini is gone.

Abe Elam had issues when he was young, too. I know jack about this Simpson kid, but I am not sure Mangini wasn't also a giver of 2nd chances - to the right kid.

If he can provide depth than bring him aboard. Our secondary has starters but behind those starters we are remarkably thin. I think Abe Elam won over a lot of fans this season, since he had someone competent starting beside him in the secondary but overall, if Elam, or Ward were to go down to injury I would be VERY worried about our secondary. If KO is one of those guys that can give the team depth than sign the guy...

We need a true FS who can cover, and both Elam and Ward are SS's. Ward needs to play more in the box or strictly cover two, otherwise we have seen what his coverage lacked the last half of the year. Maybe Brown can make the switch, but then we need another CB. Keep an eye out on Francies next year early on. I think he has talent but fell out of favor for feigning injury to get out of special teams play. That earned him a trip to the UFL from EM, so he has probably learned his lesson. he had character concerns coming in, the only guy from that draft that did.
