| Cleveland Browns center Alex Mack named to AFC Pro Bowl squad Published: Monday, January 24, 2011, 2:16 PM Updated: Monday, January 24, 2011, 2:46 PM By Mary Kay Cabot, The Plain Dealer ![]() John Kuntz / The Plain Dealer Browns second-year center Alex Mack has been named to the AFC Pro Bowl roster. CLEVELAND -- Browns center Alex Mack has been named to the AFC Pro Bowl roster, the league announced today. Mack replaces New York Jets center Nick Mangold, who was injured during Sunday's AFC Championship Game loss to the Steelers. "I'm very excited to be able to go to Hawaii," Mack said in a statement from the Browns. "It's unfortunate that Nick had to get injured for me to go, but I'm looking forward to representing the Browns. It has been a lifelong dream for me and from here on, it's working to make many more. I'm excited to be going and I can't wait to play in this game." Mack, the 21st pick in the 2009 draft, hasn't missed a snap in his two seasons. He'll be joined in Hawaii by teammate Joe Thomas, who was voted a starter at tackle. The game is Sunday at 7 p.m. For the first time since the 1981 Pro Bowl, the Browns will have at least two offensive linemen at the annual all-star game. That year, guard Joe DeLamielleure, DeLeone and tackle Doug Dieken all represented the Browns. In 2010, Mack was part of an offensive line that paved the way for five individual 100-yard rushing performances and a running game that averaged 4.0 yards per rush attempt. He is one of six Browns centers to earn Pro Bowl honors and the first since Tom DeLeone in 1981. Mack expressed his disappointment when he wasn't originally named to the Pro Bowl roster this season. Looks like Mack is taking NYJ Nick Mangold's spot in the Pro Bowl due to injury, sorry for the former Buckeye but happy for our hard working center to get some recognition. I thought I was going to vomit hearing how great Pouncey is/was for the Steelers yesterday until he got injured. Mack added to Pro Bowl roster Last edited by BernietheKid; 01-24-2011 at 06:40 PM. |

I'll agree that Alex Mack became the only Pro Bowl player ourt of the draft ineritance of 4 picks (thanks Phil Savage - you hooked us up in 08 AND 09). It was NICE to hear 2 different sets of commentators/analysts concluding research without HATE telling us whose perseverence landed Hillis here. Pretty nice OUT from the BQ inheritance right? Where's the love? Haven't we always grabbed coaches from winning organizations? So is it the coaches or the organization at the top going all the way back to 1990? Have all these HATED Coaches since 1990 hired themselves? Darn it - that would mean placing blame where it belongs in the front office. If you dislike all these head coaches - who put them in front of you? And IF the main reason you don't like Mangini is because of his drafts - WHO was the one who hired him WITHOUT a competant personnel guru already in tact? And just out of curiosity, WHO were the other candidates interviewed? If people want to think it's as easy as Atlanta - there was no Thomas Dimitroff hired in conjunction with the Head Coach. It was a hollow front office giving Mangini the SAME job that Mike Holmgren got nailed to the cross with in Seattle before he rose from the dead and led them to the Heavens of an AFC Championship. From all I've seen since the 90s, GREAT personnel guys like Bill Polian, Scott Pioli, and whoever does it in Pitt - perpetuates winning for coaches that come from winning organizations. We ALL blamed RAC and he actually went 10-6 in SPITE of Savage and extracting the best football Dumb Ass was ever capable of. This was BEFORE Savage added 2 more dline guys from 4-3 schemes (Rogers & Williams) for his coach that needed 2 gappers. Not saying I want RAC back; but Savage acted like the speed of Reuben Droughns and the panic attacks of Trent Dilfer was to remind RAC of New England from where he saw things. Those 4 years set us back 8 years considering the keepables from the 2008 and 2009 drafts and the age of the team with best work in the rear view mirror. At least we got Gil Haskell here to advise the coaching staff that rain is wet. Pretty cool shit for a 6-7 figure salary today.

| 2010 NFL All-Pros, awards ballot with Julius Peppers, Tom Brady - Peter King - SI.com This is in line with Peter King's All-Pros assessment: "C: Alex Mack, Cleveland. Doubt this? Watch the job Mack did on Vince Wilfork in the Browns' beatdown of the Patriots." And Wilfork had a heck of a year according to most. He's in Hawaii as well. His name was on the DT short lists with Suh and Ngata this year. Curran: A look inside my 2010 All Pro ballot I have to see if I still have the Patriots game on the DVR. I'd like to go back to watch just the O-line play.
