Default Shaun Rogers is Gone

According to Zac Jackson:

Quote:
No shock the Browns slice the Mangini favorites first

Have been on the road so unsure if it is out but Rogers cut

Also Barton Bowens Royal St Clair

Rogers the exception there because he was not a Mangini guy but that's big news. Disappointing end for both sides

Royal and Eclair gone!
What a relief!
Those two killed us!

There's no loss there with any of them. We are going to get younger. The only regret is that Rogers doesn't have the desire to get in shape and be the football player he once was or still could be. Rogers had an opportunity to redo his contract when he met with Jauron. I guess he didn't give the right answer.

The cuts were Shaun Rogers, Eric Barton, David Bowens, John St. Clair, Robert Royal, and Kenyon Coleman. We have effectively gone from three potential starting D-Linemen to one and the rest I'm apathetic toward. Rogers I can understand, he wasn't pulling his weight especially when he was looked upon to step it up. Coleman is a surprise given how he had a pretty decent season last year. Bowens/Barton, yeah they want to get some younger guys in here I get that. St. Eclaire? LONG overdue. Robert Royal... meh

I am worried about the D now, officially.

Fans already looking to next year and I don't blame them.
I think we will have things to be excited about that we lacked last year and we have some real facepalm moments just like last year.
It's going to be tough.

I'm not sure Rogers ever really recovered from his injury.Maybe he can't.. . No one wants a fat, unmotivated, injured player commanding big salaries on a roster. I always loved his talent. Unfortunately we only got about 10-15 plays of that talent while he was here. It's a shame but he's just another in a long list of players we brought in that either got hurt, underperformed, or both. It's another reason this team is spinning its wheels again. It's a decision that really had to be made. Same with the others. Gotta get younger, like Y-town said.

Rich got it right on rogers... kudos. Me I thought/think he is/was our best defender...dude will go somewhere else and be all world...but we are starting over on the D-line. Mangini wanted vets...heckert wants youth. so be it. Robaire smith gone too? cj Mosely? who the hell do we have outside of rubin? please don't tell me schaffering is our next guy. I think we just kissed Aj Green goodbye! mwah even though he won't be there when we pick...looking more like dareus from bama

I'm not so sure I would give Rich any credit..I think Rogers issue was more his injury..not his talent.

Again, Rogers was the only one that even REMOTELY fit a 4-3. Coleman/Bowens/Barton were all too big for the positions they would be asked to fill in the Jauron style 4-3. He tends towards smaller DE's (255-275) and smaller LB's (230-245). Not saying I didn't like the guys...but they just weren't a fit for his defense.

I like to see this kind of stuff, it tells me the new staff is going to be proactive. Every guy on this list deserved (or should) have been terminated, with the only possible exception being Coleman. I'm surprised Robaire wasn't in this group. Anybody with eyes could see Royal had no business being involved in the passing game. As a matter of fact, how much of watching him drop TD's and first downs pissed Walrus off enough to really get down on EM? Royal should not have been playing, period, regardless of blocking ability.

St. Clair was still one of the black marks on last year's team. He wasn't supposed to start, but injuries led to him doing that alone down the stretch, which directly coincided with our offense biting it and running game going south.

Barton is just too old, he never was much and Bowens, well, he wasn't bad inside for the 34, but he has no business sticking around on a rebuilding team turning to a 43.

Now, on to the fat man. And when i say fat, I mean fucking FAT!!! da ich did nail it on Rogers, and big time or sumtin. Hurt or not, he certainly wasn't too hurt to sit at the buffet table. A player as big as him should actually drop weight when rehabbing so to make his recovery faster. He was so huge by the end of the year that I bet he was tipping 380. I have zero respect for him, the guy honestly is one of the best talents I have ever seen play. I held out hope that we would be the fresh start he was looking for after getting out of Detroit, and I was way wrong.

Good riddance to all these chumps, it is time to move on, use some of their coin for others that can help and get younger.

That's a good point. I wasn't really too worried about cutting Bowens or Barton. I hardly expected either of them to make the team next season anyway. I was a bit surprised about Coleman though, I thought he might be able to hold his own on a DE in the 4-3 but maybe you are right. Gotta be rushing the passer on those ends and I don't think Coleman would have held his weight in that regard.
