Stroud is an original tackle. Just an observation, we do need bodies and have a lot of stuff to shore up. We are going to have to resign ourselves to the fact there are going to have to be a few stop gaps like this to fill out our roster. Vern, absolutely. People forget he was a failed experiment at NY and one of the reasons guys that go from hand down in college to stand up in the NFL can be huge risks. He is a failure at 34 OLB, but 43 RDE could be his calling card like it was at OSU.

| Strong End: Outside shade of TE. Wants to make sure the TE does not get a free release on to Sam but must still play outside gap. If anything comes at him, wants to bounce it outside toward the sideline. The basic philosophy is to make everything go toward the sideline. Do not let the Ball Carrier get running north to south! Strong Tackle: Responsible for the B gap strong side. Playing outside shade of the Guard. Weak Tackle: Responsible for the A gap weak side. Playing inside shade of the Guard Weak Tackle: Responsible for the C gap weak side. Has to be more of the physical of the Defensive Ends. Also should be one of your better pass rushers. The above is what some on this board seem to be missing. The C Gap LDE is often considered the weak side tackle against pro sets and is a 5-6 technique. They are heavily counted on to be pass rushers along with other responsibilities, like contain and penetration disruptions, whether it's one or two gap scheming. The above reference should ahve JJ Watt's name as an example LOL. Vern would have to be on the Browns radar. I'm not sure exactly the number of 43 teams left but that alone eliminates all the 34 teams as candidates. Considering the Browns and their need to stockpile Dline, he would be a no brainer to bring in here.

Well, in college Gholston would have big games then just disappear. I wouldn't give him a big deal or anything long term, but those great games he had were in the 4-3, maybe a short contract with incentives would drive him to make something of himself, and for once we could get a guy looking to explode into something instead of imploding with a fat check. If the price is right, I'm all for bringing him in.

If we could get Gholston on the cheap side, play him on the DE where he may feel more comfortable. He was a Veikune-esque experiment for the Jets and that game didn't really play out for them either. We need some bodies and if there is free agency, he's got to be someone for depth that our team can look into.

Fans already looking to next year and I don't blame them. I think we will have things to be excited about that we lacked last year and we have some real facepalm moments just like last year. It's going to be tough. We aren't Barking Hard for nothing. WOOF WOOF WOOF! ![]() |

| I think our focus on "bodies" and "shoring up a position" is what gets us into trouble. Both Romeo and Eric tried this, and all we got was underdeveloped young players who never got the chance to see the field. Take a chance on some young players and allow them to learn and develop. Starting guys because they're bodies doesn't appeal to me. Just sign some football players and allow them to grow. No more shoring up with washed up or never has been players, IMO.
