Speaking of RTs, Shurmur says Tony Pashos is the starter and he likes him very much. Said he played great before getting hurt.

I think the Browns line is set with Thomas, Steinbach, Mack, Lauvao, and Pashos... and that's a damn good line, man. Womack is the right-side insurance policy. Billy Yates is good interior depth. I'm betting we'll draft an OL in round 4 or 5 to keep replenishing.

Man, just get me a WR or two and I'm feeling really good about this offense.

Fact is that Pashos can't stay healthy. He would be my starting tackle also but how many games can you count on him for.

The OL looks solid but you have to acknowledge that this is a game that produces many injuries and you muct have solid backups at every position. Just Yates and Womack don't give you enough linemen especially since Lauvao has proven he can play on Sundays yet.

The Browns need to address depth mid/late in the draft with a solid OL prospect they can develop.

Heaven forbid if Thomas ever went down. The line and McCoy would be fucked. There isn't anybody backing up Thomas or anybody they are grooming to back him up. The depth chart has Steinbach as the backup LT.

Yeah but I think Pashos is injury bugged. I'd like to see us grab a RT in the draft this year, but to play him next to another greenie in Lauvao would make me nervous. Pashos is 50/50 for me right now because he was injured the last two-three seasons.

Me too Nickers. I still have flashbacks to the miserable outings Tucker had vrs Julius Peppers in 02 and again in 06.

In 02, Peppers only played in 12 games and had 12 sacks. That said, averaging 1 sack a game doesn't really show how much of an effect he had overall. He slammed shut the point of attack, blocked a bunch of passes and hurried several throws.

Believe it or not, that's been the problem dating all the way back to hanging onto Tucker for far too long. It's been a while since we've had dependability at RT health and performance wise IMO. When Tucker wasn't battling injury he went mental AWOL and when he got over that he had that Shawn Merriman dirty urine that cost a quarter of a season in games. St Clair was just too old to play tackle at the NFL level.

We've been going with the old "this will have to do" mentality on the right side for quite a while.

I don't disagree with Shep IF Pashos can stay healthy. He looked pretty good in that short window of games he suited up for. We can get a GOOD right tackle in round 3 IMO. We have to remind ourselves we have somebody better than Savage doing the drafting today so an olineman AFTER round 1 or even 2 CAN work.

On just about any line, your highly-drafted guy is at LT... and lately centers have been rising. We have Pro Bowlers in both spots. A third rounder at RG is par for the course or above. I like both Pashos and Womack at RT... but agreed that we need a guy to develop behind them.

Yates was REALLY good in this three-game run as a starter. Those were the salad days of the season.

Steinbach makes a really nice backup for LT. Plenty of people have said he could have been a very, very good one, in fact.

Key is to keep bringing in guys you don't expect to start day one.

Sorry, but IMO Steinbach gets his ass handed to him if he ever starts at LT. He might be able to play some RT in a pinch but you have to realize there is a reason he started his whole career inside. He isn't a tackle. It's about time we started developing our own guys. guys you pick mid to late in the draft and work with them for a few years instead of always looking for some over the hill, overpaid stopgap in FA.

There is pretty good depth later on at tackle.. I can see us definately getting a RT in round 4 or 5 who will start our backing up Pashos and hopefully pushing him to the bench later on. Remember guys..we are building a team for more than just this years.. There is a lot more to it than..who can play RIGHT NOW.. With all our holes..the fact is we will have to draft and develop some players...but then there is free agency and a few younger RT's out there that can push Pashos right now if we can go nab one of them up..there are only 2-3 free agents out there that are young and have the upside I like.. So it's slim pickins..that's why I am thinking later in the draft..I think it's WR and D in the draft..

I've been wanting us to draft a RT for a while now, even a late round guy. Fact is we need SOMEONE, even a "project" that we can build up. Someone like Lauvao last season. If this years draft is good for depth we need to capitalize on that and I am sure Heckert is aware as well. Pashos was a gamble, and really I don't like the idea of depending on him starting at RT either when he's started what... 7 games the last two seasons?

We had a pretty good draft, and I'd like to start seeing some results.
Fans already looking to next year and I don't blame them.
I think we will have things to be excited about that we lacked last year and we have some real facepalm moments just like last year.
It's going to be tough.
We aren't Barking Hard for nothing.
