Tom, my favored pick by miles is A.J. Green. I think he'll mean more to the team and Colt McCoy than any other selection. I don't think it's even close.

But if the Bengals take Green? I think we're closer on the interior with Rubin, Shaefering, and Ivey than we are on the edges. I know we'll be adding DTs, but I would prefer a pass rusher with a pick that high.

I personally think WR and DE will be the first two picks unless we sign Charles Johnson or Kiwanuka or something in free agency. I also am guessing that linebacker will be third... we can get good value there.

My hope is we find a DT or two in free agency.

My hope is that there is a free agency period before the draft.

Honestly, I don't think there are too many teams counting on filling needs through FA before the draft. so, you draft for BPA according to needs and then backfill when or if the Fa period opens up. Of course, there wouldn't be any trade of players (just draft picks) allowed either.

This will be a strange year if we don't have a CBA in place.

With that said, there won't be any signings of UDFA allowed either if there isn't a CBA in place before the draft.

So, looking for a FA to fill needs before the draft isn't the way you should be looking at it, at this point in time. Things could change in a matter of days, but that's hopeful thinking and most don't think that's going to happen.

Honestly, I am choosing to approach it with a hopeful attitude. The last seven days have at least fueled a comforting delusion for me.
