Where were you talking about this for five years, BTW? The interesting NEW news on this is other people not named Shep or Warrior are talking about how it's better to spread that cap around the defensive backfield and have six or so talented cover guys rather than one Revis or Nnamde. Nnamde in particular is getting toasted. OCs have zero problem facing "an elite lockdown corner" with five receivers. Last edited by Brown Warrior; 10-05-2011 at 08:03 PM. |

Corners are becoming more and more popular to convert to safety because the reality is that the NFL is removing the true safety from the game with all the rules. They can't hit anybody anymore (Usama Young doesn't even think he's allowed to make a tackle) and the big hit is all but removed. May as well have another rabbit back there to try to tip the ball away without committing a penalty.

| This is not true at all. The DC in Philly has been running a lot of zone coverage which negates the great coverage skills of Nnamde and their other very good corners. I'm suprised you haven't heard the Philly fans complaining about the schemes not matching their talent all the way in California.

It DOES matter if you aren't using a player's greatest asset. For instance, what would the Rapist in Pittsburgh be if he had to STAY in the pocket and get the ball out of his hands as early as every 3 or 5 or 7 step drop the huddle play called for? He would be in jail not worthy of the coverup process the Rooneys had to go through.

Well, then you're a smart guy and I totally agree. Pass blocking RTs and "cover safeties" are and will continue to be all the rage in a passing league. Except on Veg and Leg's TVs, I guess. All I've seen is Philly sucking at pass coverage (Trent Cole being hurt is probably the biggest issue) and Nnamde taking some heat. Also heard NFLN talking about teams winning with numbers in the defensive backfield (guys with solid coverage skills) rather than one elite guy. |
