Everyone agree?
Which is why I think Julio may have taken the number 1 WR crown....
WHAT!!!! DID I JUST SAY THAT!?!?!?
Yeah I did folks and I'll tell you why. the combine results made me look back at some tape of Jones and Green. Julio is definitely more explosive and gets a ton a separation. He was perfect in the gauntlet at the combine, when looking at his tape, he really cured his dops in previous seasons and really started catching like an elite WR. When taking the combine into consideration, then going back and looking at the tape, I see Jones being the way better prospect who just lacks some of the polish Green has. How much better can Green get? What does he do? How can that help out team? Then ask the same questions for Julio and you may see what Im looking at. | Let's remember BEFORE the combines you were questioning my appeal for Julio Jones as my plan B alternative to Green or a short tradedown option prior to you falling in love with his fitness results. Here's a little dialogue me and you had in Shep's where Top WRs come from thread on page 1 and 2 of that thread: PGL: The problem is, at 6, with Green gone, there are no WR's worth pick number 6. Julio Definitely doesnt... Neither does young or Baldwin...... We have to take BPA with 1st pick (or trade down with a team that wants Camera Newton) and BWRA with the 2nd pick Me: Don't sell Julio short if we trade down PGL. He's not facing the corners that got you excited about Titus Young. Julio has gone against studs like Joe Haden, Patrick Peterson and Javier Arenas every day in practice so the NFL won't be as overwhelming to him. Arenas and Haden started and performed well for their teams as rookies to get an idea of the caliber of competition Jones faced. Don't get yourself caught up in who has the sexiest highlights vrs inferior competition because it can be a false positive. Keep in mind, Jones is ONLY a junior and the BEST highlights of him are outjumping people for the football in traffic. Anytime they went deep to him, he had so much seperation that when he came BACK to underthrown footballs he would catch them and re-establish his seperation again. He's a 6'4" target like Brandon Marshall without the character flaws. And again, if he returned for a senior year - he'd most likely be a top 5 pick in 2012. I didn't have the greatest impression of him heading into 2010. When I say WOW in 3 different games, a very stubborn mind has been changed the only way it could be.
page 2 - same thread: PGL: Julio Jones is an insane athlete, a crazy bulldozer of a WR, and he can get separation like no ones business... But to be honest (and it IS an important part of being a WR), the dude is just ugly out there. He looks uncomfortable catching the ball... He looks like that guy that had never seen a ball until high school, that when someone throws it at him, he panics with gator arms, and bread basketing... His hand eye coordination, fluidity, and body control leave alot to be desired. Julio is going to be GREAT on deep posts, due to his great speed in his routes, and he is going to be GREAT on quick slants and in routes, because of his YAC ability and the fact that he's a hard dude to bring down. The problem is, I see alot of tipped, and stripped passes in his future, plain and simple... his consistency in the NFL will have our insides churning. ME: Believe it or not, I shared alot of your concerns about Julio heading into 2010. And you know how stubborn I am about getting my first impression opinion changed. I won't try to twist your arm if you're not feeling Julio. I'm glad I caught 3 Bama games in 2010 to see a much different Julio Jones than I saw in 2009. I think his uneasyness you speak of is that when he beats a guy by a step or 2 in the SEC; and the QB either doesn't put the ball out in front of him or makes him go jump ball for it - it's gotta be disappointing to unsettling after a while. In the video I shared, in previous threads - he was catching everything in traffic. When he severely beat people deep, he had to come back to underthrown footballs. I don't think Julio has ever had a Matthew Stafford roping strikes out in front of him once seperation has been established for better YAC in a conference where its tough to get seperation. Titus Young got thrown the same kind of pass at the Senior Bowl that Julio had to catch alot of - and he looked intimidated when he saw the type of DB that Jones saw every Saturday and almost every practice.
