Berry legitimately believes that he should be the number one pick in the draft, and only the position he plays will possibly keep that from happening. The kid makes a decent argument in his favor and is certainly not lacking in confidence. I like him a great deal (duh). |

I turned the interview on part way. I was impressed by him, thinking this is the kind of guy you draft. Then I heard it was Berry. I still like Haden, but that conversation with Rome puts hm or Haden good with me.

I'm not sure I buy that argument, ram. A star is a star is a star, and stars make plays and help their teams win, regardless of position. And this kid has stardom written all over him.

He said he prefers interceptions of the killer hit, mainly because he wants to get back at the QB, (mentioning that he used to be a QB). Feels he can play any of the DB positions and fill in for some of the LB plays. Seems to have a distaste for WR's. Doesn't consider himself a Safety, considers himself a football player Good stuff |

I love Berry... but let's not kid ourselves that one position is the same as the next. A great quarterback is equal to a great center. That's just absolutely, positively not the case. Some positions can return value WAY more than others. Pittsburgh and Baltimore usually draft late, where they can draft any position and get value. The one time Pittsburgh drafted 11th... they took a quarterback. Baltimore got Flacco. |

I'm sure Berry gets a higher rating at safety than either Clausen or Bradford at QB... but let's see who has more of an impact on his team over the next decade. If neither is very good, Berry's the better pick. If Berry is great and Clausen or Bradford is really good... the quarterbacks were smarter picks. Without Roetlhlisberger, the Steelers would suck, great defense and Polamalu and all. They'd certainly be worse than the Jets, who should have gone 8-8 with a better defense and a better running game. That game they played with Dennis Dixon was FUGLY. But without Polly, their defense had similar stats and they won at about the same clip. The Colts were fine without Sanders. Losing a safety is NOT losing a quarterback. Hence... value. You just can't safety your way to a first round bye. |
