Default Koa's best case scenario Browns mock

Apologies in advance. There's already a flood of mocks on here, but I did one in '09 and wanted to keep tabs on my prog

1 (6) – AJ GREEN (WR) UGA
If he’s gone take Julio Jones and don’t look back
2 (37) – JABAAL SHEARD (DE) Pittsburgh
Big East Defensive Player of the Year. Some think he’ll turn out to be the best pass rusher out of this class. 14.5 tackles for loss, 9 sacks in ‘10 while constantly doubled
3 (70) – MASON FOSTER (LB) Washington
In mocks Foster is going anywhere between 1-3. This would be a steal at 70. Excellent wrap around tackler at OLB leading the Pac-10 with 163 in ‘10
4 (102) – JOHNNY PATRICK (CB) Louisville
First team All-Big East. Teams typically didn’t throw his way as a senior but he still picked off 5 passes in ’10. Character concerns may drop him here at an excellent value
5 (137) – SIONE FUA (DT) Stanford
Stanford was ranked 19th nationally in run defense and a lot of the credit goes to Fua. At 310lbs this guy can clog running lanes and eat up double teams in a 4-3
6 (168) – JAH REID (OT) Central Florida
I went to UCF and have watched this guy for 3 years. He’s a lean 330 and assisted the Knights to a dominant run game with sub-par backs. Could easily develop into a full time starter in 2 years and do spot duty immediately
6 (170) – DERRICK LOCKE (RB) Kentucky
Track star fast and also a return specialist. NFL Draft Scout calls him a “slightly smaller version of Chris Johnson with higher injury risk.” Never will be a feature back because of his small frame and MCL/ACL injuries, but his speed could be a perfect complement to Hillis and Hardesty if he stays healthy
7 (248) – NATHAN ENDERLE (QB) Idaho
Four-year starter in a pro style offense at Idaho. Great build (6’4, 240lbs), has a quick release and good intermediate accuracy that bodes well for a WCO. Gil Brandt is a big fan of Enderle, who more than once touted him as the drafts biggest sleeper

I'd like to see the Browns get an offensive game changer to help Colt's progress, then really focus on beefing up the defense thereon. These picks stay true to the prospects overall value on Sports Xchange, but it wouldn't surprise me to see Foster, Patrick, and Reid go much earlier.

LOVE that mock. Especially the first three. I'd be tempted to jump at the under tackle in four and the CB in five... but I could absolutely live with this.

Thanks BW! I agree that it'd be ideal to grab a down tackle within the first four, but CB depth in this class seems to be much thinner than DT. If we can land Patrick in the 4th it's highway robbery

It looks like a winner in my book. Hits the needs in a big way and more than likely is real close to BPA.. it would require some luck... but if our draft looks even close to this...we would be pleased.

On top of that point... I think Shaefering might be a really good penetrating 4-3 tackle. Heckert said he has the quickest first step of the guys who could project on the interior. He's quick enough to play base end in the 4-3... which tells you something.

That kid really emerged last year. I wouldn't sleep on him. Our starting DL could very well be Sheard, Rubin, Shaefering, and Mitchell... with Benard replacing Mitchell on passing downs and quicker tackle replacing Rubin (maybe that fifth rounder). And it could be very, very good.

Great points.

Sheard, Rubin, Shaef, Benard, and working in Fua/Mitchell definitely gives us an infusion of youth and energy at the line. Then consider the depth of Foster, Fujita, Gocong, Jackson behind them. I like it all too much.

Looks good to me.

I'm of the crazy opinion that Patrick would be better off at safety. He's more of a playmaker when facing the action and is violent in run support. Also a good special teams guy.

Not sure Fua's what we need: he may be better off as a 3-4 nose. However, he could provide quality depth behind Rubin.

Love the Locke pick. On the other hand, I'm not very high on Enderle: he can be scattershot at times and isn't as solid a decision-maker as you'd expect from a super-Wonderlic score guy. That said, he's got a good arm -- he connected on a purty deep ball at the Shrine Game practices -- and could be a decent project QB.

Schaefering is a backup one technique DT. He isn't a get up the field 3 technique DT and never will be. Schaefering is a two gap guy but good for depth on the DL. Mitchell is a FA as hasn't had much good to say about the Browns or coming back to Cleveland to play. He may be as hard to resign as Roth.

As for Robinson and Ivey and the rest, they are warm bodies. The only real talent we have on the DL is Rubin and Bernard. The rest may have a hard time even making the team.

A big key to Jauron's style 4-3 defense is a 3 technique DT. sorry, but that isn't Schaefering. He couldn't play DE in the 3-4 so they moved him inside to backup Rubin because he is a space eater. A two gap DT, not a guy that's going to get some push. He'll hold the point of attack and be a good run stuffer but he isn't going to get to the QB.

Sorry man but you are way over evaluating the talent we have on the DL and don't count on Mitchell or Roth. At some point there will be free agency and both want to test the waters and both have a bad taste in their mouths about the Browns. That said, maybe we can find some defensive linemen when FA kicks in.

This team is talent poor on the defensive line and LB's.. we can put lipstick on the pig..but it's still a pig.. We need a major injection of talent on the DL and the LB spots could need some work too.. Journeyman pretty much across the board..... as in lacking playmakers. I'll take a dozen please! I will be shocked if we don't go front seven with at least 5 of our picks this year.

Exactly. Taking these guys that are role players if they are even resigned and counting them as core players is out there. I've always liked Schaef, but let's not overrate the kid. Watching him last year, he lost all explosiveness the more he was on the field. He loses his legs fast. When he is just a role player, he can be effective in different spots but he is hardly a one gap stud that can play the 3 or 5 on a consistent basis.

He is what he is, a guy who can spot play along the line at the 1 or 3 and maybe the 5 in goal line or short yardage packages.
