ARE YOU AN OPTIMIST OR PESSIMIST
I have always been an optimist. Some folks see the negative in everything. That's not how I see life.
By trading down Heckert and co. admit this team does not need A player or two to get better. We need PLAYERSSSSSSS as in PLURAL.. and a lot of them. They also admit this is more than a one year building process.
It appears they obviously liked the guys who got picked before #6. They got to #6 said the guys we like are no longer here.. We have a chance to get out of this spot and pick up players. Smart move for a team that needs a lot of players. Just ask Dallas when they traded Hershall Walker,
Every year there are plenty of guys in the 2nd and 3rd round that out perform top guys in round 1.
On drafting Phil Taylor: .. Ask any QB.."Where do you least like the pressure to come from?" Pretty much to a man they will say "From up the middle" because they cannot step up and into their passes. This guy is also a beast against the run. What about rushing the QB? From what I saw from film that was not his job. He was often occupying 2 blockers and eating space. So does that mean he can't rush the passer? No it does not. I saw plenty of film where he was chasing QB's. He could be our next Michael dean Perry. He is VERY quick for his size. He and Rubin will be able to collapse the pocket and stuff the run.
Atlanta paid too much for Julio Jones. a 1st, 2nd, and 2 fouths.. It's too much for a guy with iffy hands and coming off of foot surgery. Maybe the Browns just didn't like him enough, or at all. So they went a different route. Maybe they see WR's in round 2 or 3 they like. Maybe they will decide to go the free agent route to supplement our WR's since it's such a deep class.
We still have 8 more picks.. 2 2nds, 2 4ths, 5th, 2 6's and a 7 (I believe that's correct. We also reap an extra #1 and 4 next year. Maybe we package those later picks today to move up? Maybe Heckert has a great board and will use all those picks. I'm excited.
I think we definately made out on the Atanta trade. Our team has at least a dozen holes to fill or build depth at. We went a long way to accomplishing that today. I see some great players still available at the top of round 2.. I'm not the draftnick enough to know about the later rounds. I just know that the teams that scout well, find late round players all the time.
Julio Jones may just become my favorite player of all time, as he will be the reason the Browns get launched into the next level and competing for championships due to this trade
I like the plan. after all I'm an optimist
