Tight ball, accuracy and quick release are far better measurements then arm strength. You just have to be smart with your play calling in bad weather. You don't keep slinging it down field when it's 0* and 20 mph winds. Sipe managed the bad weather with a arm about equal in strength. We are talking a couple of games not most of the season. Game plans should put a team in the best position to win, dumb is the game plan in bad weather that calls for any QB to test his arm against mother nature. The WCO is perfect for QBs not gifted with great arm strength and perfect for managing bad weather. I'll take accuracy over a big arm any day. If you can get both, you have a HOFer. But, there are guys in the HOF who were noted for better accuracy then arm strength. Guys with "enough arm" can win in the NFL. Holmgren said Montana and Young proved there is a lot more to being a winning QB then having a big arm. |
