Default Wide Receivers 2011

This should be a little less incendiary (!).

How do you feel about the guys we have? Do you think Mitchell, Norwood, or Hagerty can make the team and contribute? Who starts? Who's the slot? What would you like to "add to the pile" (hate that phrase of Heckert's), if anything?

I'll start: I think Robiskie could take a major step in the WCO. I also think Greg Little will start IF there's a full preseason to get him up to speed.

I think our primary issue is speed, as in the lack of it. We have guys who can catch the ball consistently (Robiskie, Little, Watson, Moore, and Cameron actually has great hands)... but we could really use a field stretcher.

I think Jones or Rice would fit that... and I like Moore in the slot, but if Alo's right, Massoquoi might be transitioned to that spot.

Have at it.

Ms. Cabot tweeted that Greg Little wasn't at the practices Colt organized last week. Very good news for people who love bad news.

Dear Browns Fans,
First off I didnt like the draft! I understand the trade and the potential of the picks we can get but I'm not liking who we got. We need defensive players who attack the qbs. And with our first pick we got Taylor? Taylor? WTF! There were better players available at that time, hell there was that kid from Temple at the same position whose not only, Bigger built(muscle wise), faster and stronger and more produtive then the dude we picked up! Taylor had 2 and a half sacks man....why dont we just give the division away. Lets have Flacco and Ben just sit in the pocket and wait for someone to get open like it does every season. We were in about every game this past year...except the damn Pitt ones. Why cant we get impactive players. Look if we drafted Taylor to take over Rodgers part then why not just re-sign Shawn in the first place! We gotta start doing that! Let too many good players leave and draft look-a-likes that arent the real thing. Greg Little? Yes thats what we need...a guy who was suspended all of the last season. Great work Mike! Please give me the job of the Draft. Atleast a scout cause the players i want, and believe me i want the very very best for Cleveland, give me the job. Ask my friends, i have a list of atheletes that i want the browns to draft, and be it sometimes there kids get picked ahead of our pick, Pat Peterson, Aj Green, but for the most part they dont get pick ahead of us in the draft and we dont take them, AP, Clay Matthews, Crabtree....I had em all on my list, at least last year we got one of em i wanted, Colt Mccoy! And have faith in Colt! Hes good and will become great. So we passed up on probowlers in the past and drafted headaches and bums. Theres a reason we r a laughing joke in the NFL its cuz of mistakes in our organization and managment! Get the players who have no fear. Get someone that will be in Big Bens face all game! We want to win Damn it! We want to have the Lambardi trophy in the Land of the Cleve! So lets get it together MH! Oh and one more thing......... F&%K Lebron!!!!

It isn't all about speed. It's about getting separation and quickness as much as speed. It's about putting the offense and WRs in a position to be successful. Mangini's offense didn't do that. He passed the ball out of necessity wanting to run the ball down your throat. for that, you can't continue to say our WRs suck and are the worst in the NFL. The offense may have been one of the worst but the receivers were an afterthought. Even when they did pass the ball the TEs seemed to be the first options a lot of times.

Not saying our WRs are great. But they aren't as bad as you would like others to believe. They were misused and underused. They played in a system that was basically a 2 TE, 2 RB setup. they also played with shit for QBs their first year (2009) and a revolving door of QBs last year. They suffered because Daboll wanted Cribbs on the field to keep defenses honest.

That said, our players will be much improved with just the change in offense scheme and no QB controversy for once.

Robo has the opportunity to shine in the WCO that we will play. MoMass isn't a #1 and should prosper if moved into the slot. He's quick in and out of his breaks but gets lost running deep routes. I don't believe Little will start even if we have a full camp. He's green as a receiver and rusty. He needs to learn to be WR and then a NFL receiver. He was a RB and needs to make that full conversion. He has great talent and is super athletic but he most likely will start as the #3 WR and should progress from there.

Cribbs is an enigma, I wish they would convert him to RB. I always thought he would make a great change of pace guy and create major matchup problems coming out of the backfield as a receiver. He may have a future as a slot receiver but we are full of those guys. I think Moore and Cameron could be awesome weapons as hybrid TE/slot receivers in this WCO.

I also hope they take a good long look at Haggerty, Mitchell and Norwood. They all have some potential and bring something to the WCO we will be running. There is some speed there to satisfy guys, like you, who thinks you have to have speed to have a successful pass offense.

I don't think bringing in a veteran WR just to have a veteran is the right way to go. We need to focus our energy on developing what we have. Then, add where you must. If a top WR is available, I have no problem upgrading the position but I think there will be far less top WRs available then you think. guys like Rice and Vincent Jackson aren't going to be UFAs. The best you could expect is overpaying a somewhat erratic, James Jones to come to Cleveland.

Hey, JMO. But, no matter what you believe, this team has more talent and better options on offense then on defense. So, my FA vote goes for DL, FS and LB instead of WR.

James Jones fumbles too much. I agree that the wr werent used all that much and when we did use em its was a 5 yard pass. Throw down the field!!!!! Cross routs patterens! Get Cribbs more into the mix! You cross patteren him out and open the gap for him to run then theres impact!!!! Stuckey, Mahommhad can spread the d....if we use em correctly.

Finally we get a FO fun by good football people and you want to whine. We are fnally building a football team from the lines out like it's suppose to be built. Don't blame pst mistakes on what our new FO is trying to do. Forget what your friends think about you. If you have something to contribute, then express your opinion but stop the whining.

Default Dear upset fan

Toungstown simmer down. I'm just stating the facts. If you recall we made first round trade 2 years ago, ok a couple first rd trade and what did we get outta it.....a center. Be it we need a little more depth out the with Thomas to contribute to protection of our young QB, but we need alot, and your response to my message i wrote proves that you along with everyone else that thought we did a good job in the draft dont want us to win. From what i hear Little isnt attending McCoys practices, and i heard that our brillrant first rd pick has a injurrd leg that he's delt with throught his college career. I'm upset as r you that we dont win like the browns could do. Last year proved that. How many games did we lose by 7 or less pts last year. Was it bad coaching calls late in the game, some, bad tackleing, thats how the jets beat us, or tiredness. I love my Cleveland Browns but I am sick of heartaches and not taking risk and man we've been rebuilding since we got back into the league. Thats not a response anymore bro its an excuse. Somebody has to shape up this team with more talent and less fear. Footballs not the same game as it was 15 years ago. Look at the teams we lose to in the division. They have anger and emotion and the drive year after year to win. Hope Pat can light a fire under this teams ass and get them to exceed and hit the limits of their potential. I'm not "whinning" as you so repeadedly used. I'm annoyed, and i hope i am wrong with this draft class, but it seemed like everyone got better and we just settled for theres players. Tell me I'm wrong again. Cuz i understand the Cavs having to rebuild these next few years but the browns, they have to rebuild cause they dont draft correctly. We hire the wrong couches, tell me i'm wrong there too, and we settle for a top 7 pick year after year. Victory is in our grasp if we take the correct step to help ourselves before its too late. So give me reasons why it seems you enjoy lossing. My opinion is we need better scouts, thats all it was. Wasn't "whinning", but more woundering why this seems to happen year after year to us.........hmmmmm

Ya I am really amped up for Carlton Mitchell. I know everyone will be excited to see how Greg Little can contribute immediately but I think Mitchell will surprise a lot of folks this year.

Jus go back and look at his reel from his final year at USF. Dude is beastly. 6'3..4.3 speed, good hands. I'm shocked he wasn't on the field more last year as Heckert is.

Plus his mom is a cut woman for boxer Antonio Tarver!

Ok...now that the "whine and Sneeze" fest is over lets get back to Sheps question/Analysis and the issue of..."Speed" I think having a burner isnt really necessarry unless your QB is Daryle LaMonica or John Elway...if you really wanted just stick some kid out there with flat out foot spped...they are mainly decoys to open up the fiekd anyway so there is open spaces in the intermediate and short range routes. The kind of speed I think we need is "Foot quickness" ...Being able to explode off the line...use your foot quickness to adjust when running routes, getting open...And moving the chains...Very few deep passes are caught...And only run really in desperate situations...or when you get an opportunity to catch a defense in a stupor. I dont think olympic speed is necessarry per se...but good quickness. Agility and balance....Thats My 2 cents....Next?

I think Haggerty is Legit... AND he has been at camp colt...... lets just hope his leg injury didn't screw up his INSANE explosiveness

Our starting 4 WR's should be:
WR1: Little

WR2: Robiskie

Slot: Cribbs

WR4: Haggerty

PS/WR5: Mitchell

Off the island: Momass, Stuckey

Once again I would like to say I was impressed with Robiskie at the end of the season... he was vastly improved and began playing like an NFL #2. However... I was EXTREMELY disappointed with Momass' regressions. Momass has literally NO ball tracking ability, he has extremely inconsistent ball adjustment skills and his body language as of late was also kind of off putting.

Cribbs was really starting to show up at WR before he was injured, he caught those deep balls from wallace and was doing very well in the slot.

Haggerty looked great last preseason, he showed great hands, explosive YAC and routes. I think our season wouldve been different if he diddnt get injured.

This may not be a popular opinion but i think Cribbs should be kept on special teams, the wr experiment is over.

Little is 'going' to be our 1 just not now.
week 3-4who knows(he's a rookie)
if moore is affordable than fine

mitchell??? why didn't we see more og him last year?
norwood may surprise us but he's got alot of rust by now

we have 2 2nd rounders who are getting patd, lets put them to work
