One of Phil's (few) decent moves in April was nabbing Eric Wright. Not a straight burner, but an above average 3-cone time. That's the time we should focus on with Haden, not his 40.

And yes, I think the nature of this discussion assumes that all of these guys are "unknowns" - I thought that was just built into the convo. The argument can be made that both Haden and Bryant fall into the "reaching for a need" side of the draft theology and not the "best player available" side. I think we "need" a corner more than a WR.

I expect Haden will run much faster next Wednesday at Florida's pro day. But if he runs again in the high 4.5s, I'd probably move away from considering him at #7.

In my mind, the three most important things for watch for this pro day season are
1. How fast does Joe Haden run?
2. Does Dez Bryant pull a full-on Mike Williams?
3. How does Brandon Graham look in LB drills?

I kinda see the draft this year alittle differant than most people i think. The Browns are rebuilding and have holes at nearly every position so i feel we should draft BPA as long as it isnt Left tackle or center. That seems to be the surest way to get more talent on this team.
One site I can find at the moment has the top 10 players being (in order 1st-10th) Suh, Gerald McCoy,Eric Berry, Dez Bryant, Okung, Haden, Pierre-Paul,Bulaga, Anthony Davis, Jimmy Clausen. That list is on draft countdown (2010 nfl draft rankings)
So according to that list I wouldnt draft a QB at #7. Doing it my way we would end up with McCoy, Berry, or Dez Bryant. Yes I would do the whole draft that way, BPA all the way out. Just seems to make sense to me that a team devoid of talent should try to get the most talent possible.

McCoy is going to be gone. Berry is a longshot dream for us. Dez is...well, a bit of an enigma.

If Berry isn't available, I'm for trading down, even if we get a bit ripped off again. I don't want to tangle up the team financially with a guy we're not in love with.

Good stuff, Slow. I don't necessarily agree with the list and Scott Wright doesn't update very often... but in theory, you probably have to combine BPA and need.

If you need a quarterback, though, it changes the whole game, at least in my opinion. I really think from all I've read that Holmgren doesn't dig Quinn. He's barely spoken to him. He won't speak OF him at all. I think he's looking for a BBD, frankly, as Alo suggested.

If you have Clausen in your top 10-12... and he's there at 7? I think you have to take him, even if you have a corner rated ahead of him. It's NOT apples and apples.

I'm not sure I'm in love with Clausen, but yeah. Quarterback is like a basic fundamental. Not having one is like building a house on a sandy foundation.

I dont really agree with the list either was just using it as an example. QB is a basic fundamental but I believe it should be one of the last pieces to the puzzle. Get our OL right and atleast one WR that can catch AND make plays, not to mention atleast a top 15 defense. I just feel if we go get our "franchise" QB this year we'll be setting him up for failure. Cleveland has ruined a few QB's behind a poor OL and supporting cast.
I go back and forth with this one, maybe we should draft him and groom him for a year or two while we get the rest of the team together.
I dont like Claussen much at all. Bradford would be my choice if i had to chose out of this class but I dont think hes much of an (if any) upgrade over what we already have. Just my opinion of course.
I still think BPA is the way to go. No matter what position you chose its a need for the Browns this year.

Ramrod, with the team we have right now can you honestly see ANY QB being great? Our WR's cant catch if they do catch the damn ball they dont make plays. The right side of our OL is terrible in pass protection. Our OC, well you seen the same plays i did, enuff said about him. Our D isnt going to keep us in many games. I just dont think THIS team is ready yet

Yes I do. I think if a QB is great then a QB is great.

You start with a QB and then build around. Even Holmgren said that, actually go check out clevelandbrowns.com and watch the josh cribbs interiview in sights and sounds and catch him at the end saying the same thing that Ive been saying.

If you have someone else besides DA and Quinn throwing the ball to the wr's, maybe just maybe they might catch it. DA and Quinn have to be the most inaccurate QB's in the league.

If you think someone is good, you gotta go after them.

There's way too many crap QBs out there to turn up your nose just because "we're not ready."

Didn't NO just draft a CB with their first round pick in 2009 (Jenkins)? They also used a high 2nd rounder in the 2008 draft for a CB (Porter).
