This could mean that Charlie Whitehurst ends up with the Seahawks, which would take them out of Claustrich consideration. Quote:

Whitehurst certainly got some love, huh? Teams seem to like him. I think if Clausen falls to #7, it's going to be really tough for a team with Delhomme and Wallace to pass on him. I'm not saying it's gonna happen... but that's just a tough call. |

His 2009 year was flat-out phenomenal on just about ever level -- 28/4, 3,700 yards, and a team record 4 fourth quarter comebacks. Quickest release of anybody since Aaron Rodgers, very accurate, good mobility. He's getting dinged because Quinn has flopped so far... and there's all that tool factor out there. The overall sense seems to be that he's a fiery guy and some people love it and some people hate it. Don't love the 23 on his Wonderlic, but I've read many times that he mastered Notre Dame's pro style very easily and very quickly. He's been training at a high level to be a quarterback for many moons and I expect he thinks of little else. The word around Westlake was that he was a full-on jock who cared about nothing else. But the word also was that he's a decent enough guy. Like I said, he was very nice to my son at the workouts. I think he's a legit Top 10 pick for all of those reasons. You get an almost sure-thing quality NFL starter with virtually no holes in his game. Giving the choice between Clausen and Haden, it's a slam dunk on Clausen for me. We can get a plenty good corner other ways, whether it's Richard Marshall or Kareem Jackson. If we pass on Clausen and win 5 games, it's about 4 too many to get Locker. |

Way too early to tell on Clausen. He will be worked out by Washington, Seattle, the Brown's and Buffalo for sure. Someone will fall in love with him. I think Seattle knows that he won't be there at #14 but a LT will. So, if Carroll likes him as much as he did coming out of high school then they have to be a serious contender. There is a long way to go and a lot of QB evaluations that will be done between now and April's draft. It's not about what I guy did in college or what system he ran in college, it;s about waht kind of QB they think he will be as a pro. Strong on leadership. Strong on reading defenses. Strong on accuracy. Strong enough arm to make all the throws (doesn't have to be a cannon). Mechanics and footwork can be fixed. Working under center can be taught. Give me the guy who can make the throws under pressure and hit the receiver in stride. There definately will be a line extending out of Berea and we will see who emerges as their guy. |
