A wish list is a fun idea, and this is a good thread to memorialize everyone's thoughts. I'll chime in as well. OFFENSE WR: Prefer we sign nobody, except maybe bring in a speedy UDFA If we go the vet route, I'd prefer someone with #1 upside, like Sims-Walker, Smith, or Jones. No vet slot types. RB: speed, please. Perhaps Sproles or Devine as a UDFA. While not speedy, perhaps even bring back Harrison? G... Bring back Womack and Yates. Luavau is going to start, so no need to invest in anything other than a solid backup. RT: Would love to see Clabo, but no chance whatsoever. Pashos will start, bu perhaps Light as a backup swing tackle. DEFENSE MLB: Harris would be great as suggested by Solon. Tulloch, too. Don't see either happening. We need depth here, though. Perhaps someone like Rudd? OLB: Give Thomas Howard a sack of money. If that fails, maybe McIntosh? DE : Charles Johnson is the obvious prize, but I think we have a higher shot of landing one of the top WRs. A vet on a shorter deal would be nice. Andre Carter may be gettable given he was buried in Washington's 3-4 last year. Ray Edwards would likely cost too much AND want to go somewhere more glitzy, but would serve this role nicely. Also, resign Jayme Mitchell. DT: Bring back Robaire. Look for a young 3-tech and let him battle it out with Schaeffering. CB: As much as it pains me to say this, just bring back Wright. S: Pay through the nose for either Weddle or Mikell. Michael Huff is plan C. If those three fail, go home and cry. Last edited by Bronx Cheer; 07-22-2011 at 12:37 PM. |

At WR, I like Moore, James Jones, MSW, and Steve Smith. Like to see us get one of those guys. I can't imagine us not signing pretty major guys at LDE and FS. Got the need, got the money. Bronx, why no shot at Clabo? I agree that we should have Pashos, Pinkston, Womack, Yates, and Lauvao on the squad. Lauvao and Pashos are at least potentially a good right side if both can stay on the field. Maybe by the time Pashos gets hurt, Pinkston is ready and we're set for a long time. |

| I see Clabo re-signing in Atlanta. If not there, then going to a contender with a huge hole at OT (Ravens?). How can Atlanta justify not re-signing him? In general, I see most of the top OT FAs (the top being in my opinion Free, Clabo, Colon, Brown) as being non-targets because they are going to resign with their initial team. They are generally in good situations playing with contenders and big name QBs, and none are so freaky good that some other desperate team will blow the home team out of the water with $. I'd be shocked if more than one of these guys change teams. The only exception to this is Jamaal Brown in Washington (that team is constantly in shambles), so he has a good chance of moving. However, Brown in my opinion is just like Pashos, a well above average RT when on the field but he has had some injury issues. Why switch to Brown when the switch will require us going into a bidding war while we already have his rough equivalent under contract? |

Thought I read that Atlanta has a money issue with free agents and might not be able to hang on to Clabo. Might be wrong. Quote:

What I've read is that they will have cap issues keeping all three FA lineman, but are focusing on retaining their top two - Clabo and Dahl - and letting the lesser OG go. Makes sense - they have a young OG they drafted last year, but no tackle dpeth to speak of. I don't know how the team could look Ryan in the eye after putting two new starters on the o-line. Maybe the bidding gets out of hand and they have to choose Dahl over Clabo? Perhaps. I just see them pulling out all the stops.

Hey all...been away for a while. Nice to see the conversation is still basically the same and I can just pick up where I left off. Hopefully I can check in a little more often going forward, especially with the likelihood of the season actually getting underway. As for free agents, I can't even begin to discuss this as I (and not sure if anybody does) have no idea as to the final arrangements under the new CBA. Is it 4yrs, 5yrs, multiple tags, no tags...etc. Until we know...and we won't likely know until the day before FA starts, this is even a bigger crapshoot than it usually is. I get the impression though, that despite OUR desire for a WR that the Browns are for some reason pretty happy with what they have. Likely because these guys are all young, athletic, and don't have the bad habits from other teams that a vet might bring in with them. It just feels like this coaching staff (and with a young/untried HC) is more likely to get results from younger guys and shy away from the aging vet options. Anyway, that is all for now, but it is great to read all the stuff from you guys and get caught up! See you around!!!

| Top 20 undrafted free agents not loaded with sudden impact
As you look over my list of the top 20 available UFAs, keep this in mind: The two positions that are the easiest to come in and play right away are running back and cornerback; the two most difficult are quarterback and wide receiver. With running backs, the hardest thing they have to learn is blitz pick-up, but otherwise the learning curve is by far the easiest. With corners, the learning process is not as great as it is at other defensive positions. A guy who is athletic and knows how to break on the ball has the chance to play early. It's difficult for receivers because of the multitude of coverages they see and the split-second decisions they have to make each down. And obviously, the learning curve for quarterbacks is extremely high. One thing going in their favor, however, is how much passing is dominating the game in college, so the transition is easier now than it was 10 years ago, as Sam Bradford showed last season. Here are the top 20 undrafted free agents who will be snatched up in short order: 1. Pat Devlin, QB, Delaware: Has size needed to succeed at the position, to go with accuracy and football intelligence. 2. Mark Herzlich, LB, Boston College: His battle against cancer is well documented and speaks to his hunger to play. If healthy, he can play all downs. 3. Derrick Locke, RB, Kentucky: Has quickness and speed needed for success at running back. 4. DeAndre McDaniel, S, Clemson: Has all the traits needed to be a good safety. 5. Jake Kirkpatrick, C, TCU: A former high school basketball player who is strong and smart and has traits that remind some of Colts veteran Jeff Saturday. 6. Mario Fannin, RB, Auburn: Oustanding speed and pass-catching ability. Makes a lot of plays. 7. Nick Bellore, LB, Central Michigan: Very competitive linebacker. One of the all-time top tacklers in the MAC. Great special teams player. 8. Willie Smith, OT, East Carolina: Smart offensive tackle with long arms and good athletic ability. Excellent pass blocker. 9. Ray Dominguez, G, Arkansas: Strong guard who has the chance to start for someone in his second year. 10. Brandon Bair, DT, Oregon: Needs to add weight but has the frame to do so. Very active. 11. Sealver Siliga, DT, Utah: Strong at the point of attack and reminds some of another Utah product, Dolphins defensive tackle Paul Soliai. 12. Dane Sanzenbacher, WR, Ohio State: Slot receiver who will catch the ball across the middle and has outstanding hands. 13. Kendric Burney, CB, North Carolina: Lacks great speed but makes up for it with quickness and ball skills. Very good tackler. 14. John Clay, RB, Wisconsin: Strong, inside runner in the mold of Blount. 15. Ian Williams, DT, Notre Dame: A four-year starter at Notre Dame who is very strong and athletic. 16. Ricardo Lockette, WR, Fort Valley State: Teams love speed, and he is the fastest player available of all undrafted free agents. 17. Scott Tolzien, QB, Wisconsin: Smart quarterback with good but not great arm. Has been very successful with accuracy and ability to hit the right receivers. 18. Noel Devine, RB, West Virginia: Not tall, has great speed, production and hands. Possible WR/KR prospect. 19. Kyle Hix, OT, Texas: Long arms, very strong. Doesn't have good enough feet to play LT but could be good on right side. 20. Zach Hurd, G, Connecticut: He played guard at UConn but his best position might be as a RT because of his size and strength. NFL.com news: Top 20 undrafted free agents not loaded with sudden impact

Good stuff gents... First off...No way can you compare Jamaal Brown to Pashos....dude! JB is a premier RT! With 3 good years left! Quan will pay us to come here! Clabo can be had! David Harris to me is the ONLY guy I'd break the bank for! We ABSOLUTELY need a stud MLB! Have for 25 years! To me, the DQwell experiment is over...I'll reluctantly give him a shot as 4-3 LB but I think he's a JAG! (just a guy) |
