However, even though that sounds good on the face it looks as though Cleveland is actually thinking defense in round one. There is a good chance that Tennessee’s Eric Berry will be gone by this point but if he is still available the Browns would be wise to bring him into the fold. An Ed Reed-clone and amazing athlete with 4.4 speed, Berry is a dynamic playmaker who has a knack for making quarterbacks pay dearly for their mistakes. A terrific all-around player, Berry excels in coverage but he's also extremely aggressive and isn’t afraid to mix it up and be physical. Just ask Tim Tebow! The addition of Berry would obviously represent a huge upgrade for the Browns secondary talent-wise but he’d also serve as a team leader and give the franchise a bona fide blue-chip talent to build around. Florida’s Joe Haden could also be in the mix as he’s the top cornerback in this draft and that’s a position that Cleveland is looking to address. Now that Kamerion Wimbley has been dealt a pass rushing outside linebacker such as South Florida's Jason Pierre-Paul or Georgia Tech's Derrick Morgan are also legitimate possibilities. If the Browns did want to address their offense they could go with Oklahoma State’s Dez Bryant or reach a bit for Clemson’s C.J. Spiller and either would provide the type of explosive firepower that they so desperately need. And in the 2nd round: #38: Devin McCourty CB RutgersEric Wright is basically the only starting-caliber cornerback on the Browns roster. Both would be good picks, in my view. But those three 3rd rounders will be what make or break this draft. |
Clearly, that's true.
If Berry is gone and we don't trade up for Bradford (should he not go #1), I am expecting a trade down in the first with Haden in mind.
And then I'm expecting those three 3s to move us back up into the second.
My prediction: we will end up with one 1st rounder, two 2nd rounders, and 2 third rounders, when all is said and done on draft day.
