Default Remembering Phil Savage

Savage was our beloved wheeling and dealing GM for four years. In those four years, he selected 28 players in the draft. 8 of those players remain on the team. This includes Vicker (Fullback), Alex Hall (4th string linebacker), and Brandon McDonald (nickelback). Starters Phil's drafts have left us with: Thomas, Harrison, Wright, and Rubin. Can you name the 8th player? Phil did of course bring in Josh Cribbs, Dave Zastudil, LeCharles Bentley (Back luck, can't fault him there), Hank Fraley and Shaun Rogers. He also blew big money on Donte Stallworth, Corey Williams, Trent Dilfer, Derek Anderson, and Jamal Lewis.

Yeah I don't really have much nice to say to Phil Savage. In those four years he pretty much failed to move our team forward in any direction. Things were looking up after going 10-6 but we threw a lot of money at Derek Anderson and pretty much forced the hand of stunting the potential growth of Brady Quinn. At least that doors closed now. The big money busts are probably the biggest negation against any good Savage may have accomplished. Corey Williams and Donte Stallworth literally did nothing for us. Jamal Lewis put up okay numbers but on the field he was but a husk of his former self.

We had a pretty good draft, and I'd like to start seeing some results.
Fans already looking to next year and I don't blame them.
I think we will have things to be excited about that we lacked last year and we have some real facepalm moments just like last year.
It's going to be tough.
We aren't Barking Hard for nothing.
WOOF WOOF WOOF!

So of 28 draft picks, exactly TWO play a significant role on the team: Cribbs and Thomas.

Wright is serviceable. Harrison is a relative unknown. Vickers has potential but now appears to be expendable.

Not to mention that giving DA his contract extension after only a quarter of a good year and AFTER drafting Brady Quinn may go down as one of the worst moves in all of Browns history, given what all transpired because of that move.

That's a HORRIFIC legacy.

FWIW, Cribbs was a UDFA, not a draft pick

That's even worse, no?

Makes Cribbs a miss and a catch, all in one.

I don't think we can lay this all on Phil
Tim Couch, Courtney Brown, Gerard Warren, William Green, Jeff Faine, Kellen Winslow, Braylen Edwards, Kam Wimbley, Joe Thomas, Brady Quinn, Alex Mack

Righ now there are only 2 of our first round picks on the roster. 2 offensive lineman.. taken with our last 2 of 3 first round picks.. We are the worst drafting team in the league. It's a fact.. . and not just with Phil. This must change.

I have a lot of respect for Phil Savage. It's too bad that it didn't work out in Cleveland.
