Weather gets rough in November and December. The WCO is good for it because it is a shorter passing game where the wind and elements don't affect throwing the ball as much.

Bing. Bang. Boom.

Green Bay and Philadelphia, pair of the most venerable WCO teams out there.

The wind that whips around Candlestick park is far worse than what whips around Cleveland Browns stadium in the winter. The WCO never had an issue there. As Riffer pointed out the WCO is based on shorter passes which limits the winds effect on the passing game.

Is is a good question by Legendary, who lives across the pond and isn't that familiar with the Colonies. The average fan thinks of the WCO as a finesse offense that needs perfect elements to be successful, and it is just the opposite.

Pro styles need to go downfield (see Anderson, Dumbass) and when the wind and snow hits, defenses stack the box big time. In 2007, Cincy went with an umbrella 3 scheme and completely confounded Dexter. Since the Browns didn't impose the run, Cincy feasted with backups. Defenses also take away the running game and since going downfield is damn near impossible, the offense is at a huge disadvantage. The short passing style that beats the in the box schemes and umbrella 3's is prototype in inclement weather, plus you can still pop a deep one when the opportunity presents itself.

You still have to have a good oline and protection though, otherwise stacking the box can still have an effect if the rush is getting there too quick and the running game won't be able to do a thing.

Watch how quick Bress gets rid of the ball tonight -- that is the tempo we're looking for out of Colt. Maybe not his 2nd season, but that is the goal. 2 secs and it is out most plays.

Last night was really informative to Shurmur and McCoy, I think. Both QBs get the ball out fast and spread the ball around to a lot of WRs. Rodgers is just absolutely spectacular, maybe more accurate than the most accurate QB I ever watched, Joe Montana. When he hangs'em up, I think he'll have a shot at being in the Best Ever discussion. He's currently the highest rated ever. He literally has no holes in his game.

Couldn't help thinking how little it makes sense that James Jones isn't in Cleveland on a short-term show-me deal. It would've been better for both the Browns and him. Cobb is just an ideal slot receiver and Jones isn't gonna see the field there.

I'd love to find out we don't need him (man I'm getting psyched for my trip!)... but I find it hard to believe he wouldn't have been one of our best three.

For now, I'm buying into the "spread it around" concept.

I agree with most but maybe Jones didn't want to be in Cleveland on a short term show me deal. Sometimes divas aren't the most rational thinkers. We see what seems reasonable on the outside and don't get to see the whole picture.

Cleveland wasn't the only team looking for receivers and yet he resigned with GB. It makes me scratch my head more about his decision then the Brown's FA decisions.

Cleveland Browns quarterbacks coach Mark Whipple says "the future is bright'' with Colt MCoy

Published: Friday, September 09, 2011, 3:27 PM Updated: Friday, September 09, 2011, 3:47 PM

By Mary Kay Cabot, The Plain DealerThe Plain Dealer

BEREA -- Browns quarterbacks coach Mark Whipple, who's worked with Ben Roethlisberger and Donovan McNabb, says quarterback Colt McCoy has what it takes to be an elite quarterback in this league.

"The future is bright,'' said Whipple, who guided Roethlisberger to 13 wins as a rookie and Super Bowl victory the following season.

"(McCoy) has all the physical ability to be a tremendous success in this league,'' said Whipple. "There's no question you have to have a God-given ability to be an elite quarterback in this league and I think he has that.''

Whipple cited McCoy's accuracy, his great vision and his good arm strength. "He can make all the throws,'' said Whipple. "I think he's thrown the deep ball really well.''

He said the fact McCoy sought out Brett Favre in the offseason, "tells you his thirst to become a premier player.''

Of course, he added "time will tell.''

Someone remind me again why I didn't work tirelessly on my long snapping skills as a prep schooler?

What a life. Heck, I'm 46 and could probably still be holding the job.
