I may be overrating him... probably am. It's one of those "eyeball" things were I've seen the guy really look the part of a #1 WR, make great catches and show off that YAC stuff, too.
But it's one of my scouting deficiencies: I like the way a guy "looks" in a game or two, I become blind to the downsides.

Drops are probably on of the issues holding him back from becoming a reliable receiving option, along with his fumbling. He fumbled it away 3 times last year on his 50 catches.
How long the new deal he signed really doesn't matter since the only money guaranteed is signing bonus. GB got Jones to resign for 9.4M over 3 years with only 1.5M in signing bonus. Supposedly it breaks down as $1.3 million base salary and $950,00 roster bonus for this year, for a $3.75 million first-year total. Next year he’ll make a $2.3 million base salary and $200,000 roster bonus ($2.5 million total), and in 2013 he’ll make a $2.95 million base salary and $200,000 roster bonus ($3.15 million total). That is a pretty cheap contract for a guy that is supposed to have #1 upside/talent. If he really had that you'd think his agent would have steered him to get better money as a FA. Then again maybe no one else saw his value as higher than what GB offered. |
