Right on. We were up 17-13 at home with a backup quarterback in the game for a bad team. We needed to attack... and we didn't. REALLY clear watching the whole game again on NFLN. We didn't execute a damn thing. It was ugly.

Shurmur seemed incapable of switching gears when up 4. It should have been a steady dose of H&H to run clock.
And earlier in the game, Hillis should have been the featured player in the red zone. Run, play-action, or both but lining up in the gun on the 3 is just plain bad coaching. Hillis is the only guy D's fear and Shurmur took him out of the equation. (Relatedly: what's the point of a guy like Marecic if we aren't lining him up down there? Play action to PH and Marecic in the flat seems a no-brainer there.)
The quick-snap was awful but the issue was the O, not the D. The D did its job. Shurmur did not. |
