Browns signed DT Ahtyba Rubin to a three-year, $27 million contract extension with $18 million guaranteed.
He was previously under contract through 2011 at $600K. Rubin, drafted as a developmental project out of Iowa State in 2008, has quietly progressed into one of the most productive interior linemen in football. They overpaid, but it's no biggie when the team's got so much cap space. Plus, it sends a message that guys who put the work in will get rewarded.

$9 million/year for DT that has never made the pro bowl and doesn't have big sack #'s is a ton of money. Look around the league and the only d-linemen making that kind of money are sack master DE's...The only one I can think of that makes that much as a DT is Richard Seymour but he a perrenial pro bowler who puts up (Sapp in his prime) double digit sack numbers almost every year.

It's not my money but I think Heck just overpaid for Rubin and next year or the year after when we are close to the cap a contract like this may force him to cut someone you wouldn't normaly cut to get under the cap.

He's not really being paid to be a sacker.. Most DT's don't get those kind of stats..does not diminish their value. Not to mention...this guy is an up and comer.. Just entering his prime.. it's a good signing. he and Taylor together are going to be a wrecking crew once Taylor gets some experience under his belt. It is going to fun watching them push the pocket.. It's very hard to throw if you cannot step up. I am very optimistic about these two to say the least.
