Thanks Masters and Nickers! That was really good insight from Masters about the corner losing sight of MoMass on the broken play. Like we were talking about regarding the RT significance, our WRs NEED to trust that these guys are going to protect McCoy good enough to where they can run their routes without feeling they have to look back all the way throughout the route. There was also a quick slant route in the Philly game where Robo broke open past the 1st down marker; but McCoy was immediately flushed out of pocket to his left causing Robiskie to adjust and come BACK into traffic to make the reception well shy of the first down. Then it was 4th down and time to punt. No protection even on a plan to quickly throw the ball on a short QB dropback screws up timing and WHERE catches have to be made. Again, that point Masters made about the corner not being worried about getting beat DEEP when McCoy had to run sideways for his life really reminds us that all cylinders of an engine need to work for it to run. I wasn't even considering WHY MoMass was so wide open so I'm glad he brought that to my attention. That said, Def Coordinators will be pointing this out on film to their secondaries. Meanwhile, we're always going to get that fan that says Peyton = great blocking upfront as if he's always available to 31 other teams. In reality, we don't play indoors and we haven't had Bill Polian drafting here for 15 consecutive years to be prepared for the loss of starters (especially 2 starting olinemen). Nor do we have an experienced Marshall Faulk with 4.2 speed to dump off to or Marvin Harrison. Nothing similar about it except maybe a potential for 28 INTs and more losses than wins for a young QB working his way through his 1st 16 NFL starts. When our 2010 plan was to upgrade St Clair at RT with a bunch of pesos for Pashos (always injured elsewhere) - guess who we're left looking at when he predictably can't answer the bell? St Clair -or- this year's version getting cut from another team. I'm hoping this will improve and they strongly consider putting some athletic feet at RT via Pinkston. That's life in the NFL on smaller ative rosters - original plans don't always equate to sensible internship lengths. If we keep a statue at RT, don't plan on many 5-7 step dropbacks for deep throws in 2011. The way we can protect our LG (hope it's Cousins after reading how bad Washington's oline was in 2010) is by closing the splits between our lienmen bringing them closer together. It'll be interesting to see the former Michigan State Center (Shurmur) working with George Warhop to solve what looks to be the biggest challenge to our season in replacing 2 injured starters up front.

Shurmur says Pinkston and Mack got the highest line grades last Sunday. Pinkston turning into a long-term starter would be great news. The two RTs, however, allowed 7 QB pressures and Lauvao kept jumping offsides. You have to figure Lauvao will get over the yips, but the Browns probably need to choose their guy at RT (Hicks, I'm guessing) and stick with him. |

I'd STILL move Pinkston to tackle or we're NEVER going to see this passing game we so desperately want. Those QB sprints out of the pocket vrs untouched DEs are going to lead to way more INTs than we want regardless of how much talent our QB promises if there's some degree of protection. If Indy puts Freeney over our RT, it won't be pretty. It looks like they're going to have to resort to some smoke and mirrors stuff they aren't accustomed to this year. I HATE it when the Browns are favored (ie: last week).

If the Browns current regime fails, like blows up into tiny bits, Holmgren, Heckert, Shumur all fail and are fired in the next three years...I think I would stop caring about football for awhile. We just, as an organization and a team and a fanbase, would be like scorched earth. After a nuke hit it. And a homeless guy's turd ontop of it.
