Instead of dissecting Colt McCoy, I just want to give a shout out to the DEFENSE. Joe Haden played Marshall well all game. Mike Adams made some good plays as well as the INT at the end. And the DLINE had a break out game. Mitchell, Sheard, Rubin, and Taylor all brought the pressure. The DE's gave Pro Bowl Jake Long fits for extended periods of time during the game. TJ Ward made some good plays against the run and I believe he was credited for the forced fumble. |

Play calling was very suspect today. As was the right side of the OL. You RT shouldn't be on top of your QB by the time he hits the 3rd step in a 3 step drop. I don't like what I have seen of being Philly-esc with so much pass on first and second down. MIA was bringing heat a ton today and was ripe for some screens which were never called when they should have been. In the end the play calling on the drive the mattered most was solid and CLE got the win.

1. McCoy threw a great pass to win the game.... and in the end, that's what matters most. 2. BUT... he's just been abysmal in the pocket all season. Hell, even on the last drive when Taylor was offsides, McCoy missed Cribbs on a slant that would've counted... and might've gone yard. He missed and missed and missed and missed. And he absolutely MUST become a successful pocket passer and find some way to throw something besides jump balls downfield. Plus 20, he's mostly lobbing the ball up for grabs. Sorry if this isn't cheery enough for some, but his QBR from the pocket has to be in the 40s... and over any period of time, we'll lose more than we win like that. 3. Great game for the defense, yards and all. We're getting to the QB in a bizarre variety of ways (though Jauron was conservative) and a few guys (Sheard, Taylor, Rubin, DQJ, Ward, Haden) are just playing fantastic football. Hell, Gocong even had a great game. 4. Sheldon Brown is toast. We might consider Patterson starting in his place... guy's been playing very well as the nickel. I wanted a little more in free agency there, but maybe I underrated Dimitri. 5. What a fun day for Montario Hardesty. Kid was very, very good. He may have cost Hillis some green because he really does look like a capable part of a tandem backfield and Brandon Jackson returns next year. How much do you wanna pay Hillis if he's not your "franchise back," which nobody really uses these days anyway? I want him extended... but you have to be smart about the length (three years) and guaranteed money. 6. Hey, we're 2-1. It ain't pretty, but there's time to get prettier. It feels like Greg Little is edging closer and closer to being up to speed and the starter opposite Massoquoi (they were the most common tandem on the field today), and I like that best. I'd like to see more Moore and I don't get paying him and then sitting him. BOTTOM LINE: Colt McCoy is the X-factor, because this team can win some games if he gets his shit together, which for most of the first three games it has not been. We have a pretty damn good defense and a very nice set of backs. C'mon, Colt. You're supposed to be Mr. Accuracy, not Brady Quinn with less arm. BTW, couple more things... 1. The DL is just playing really well, even Jayme Mitchell who I doubted. Rubin is having a Pro Bowl season right now, maybe should've made it last year... and both rooks are terrific. 2. DQJ had 11 more tackles and a half sack. I think we can let go of any notion that he isn't playing fantastic football... because he is. He's on pass for about 150 tackles and 10 sacks! 3. Pass protection was good. Zero sacks, only occasional pressure. Colt's inaccuracy and inability to beat one guy to find a lane (passes batted down) are on him. He has to play better. |

He has to play better. He's getting something insanely rare for a 3rd round pick, a 24-start audition, but right now he hasn't really grabbed the job by the throat. I want him to. I want to be looking at #1 WRs and pass rushers and RTs on LBs in the draft and free agency... not starting over at QB. But he's in the 70s in QBR again, like last year, and his completion percentage isn't good at all. He can't play at this level. Not good enough. |

WTF are the refs thinking throwing that stupid ass flag on Momass and Watson? Are you fooking kidding me with that bullshit? Wow that was pisspoor bush league. I think Colt - like ANY young QB - is developing. What I have seen him do many times now (in 2010 and 2011) is march his team down the field in the closing mins of a game and score a TD. I don't have any idea what BW is talking about, but Colt did not throw it up for grabs while scrambling when he hit Momass in the EZ. Not all of his throws are jump balls, but when they score TD's why complain. Man he threw some really, really good balls today. I think Shumur needs to gets this offense going because I am not sure I like what I am seeing with all of these back 2 back 2 back three-and-outs. That was frustrating and it is on Shurmur for the playcalling. Hardesty! Great day today for him. Peyton? Sign the deal bro. Well, well, well - everyone wants us to get a RDE pass rusher yet here we stand with 5 more sacks today. What is that, 10 on the season, maybe 10.5/11? I hope P Taylor is not injured because that boy can play the run and push back the pocket. Rubin with another stellar day and a sack. Man when he came at Henne after shedding his block he got there in a hurry. Dmitri Patterson! Dude just keeps on making plays and breaking up passes. Joe Haden! Nice balling bro. TJ Ward! Very good day. S Brown? Well, the reason it doesn't look pretty is because he aint getting it done. Sorry Sheldon I love ya, but you haven't made a play in a while. McCoy missed some easy plays but he more than made up for it in the end. The kid can ball that is for sure. Norwood? Learn how to return punts. You did not look good doing it today. Punter! Brad "somebodywhatshisname"? Good job on the holds and the punts. Defense made plays all game but damn can they ever get off the field? Shocking it was only 16 points. Oh that's right, Daboll is the OC. Good win. I am glad we're 2-1 and not 1-2. The worst we can do is tie for the Div lead. |
