Well also, it comes down to how invested you are in the current FO also. or the player involved. If you've basically become a shill for the front office and believe they can do little wrong. then you'll read stories like the Hillis one and infer between the lines that he's bitching and whining. if you're not, and especially if you like hillis, you might read those same comments and see nothing particularly whiny, and a guy just saying as much truth as he can when he feels he deserves to be paid more. I don't even blame Shurmur much for this. these things are usually media created controversies that aren't even there. Remember the frenzy when Cribbs contract was up? what happened? Cribbs went on ESPN and other places in an effort to leverage himself more money. No one called him whiny, and the team and player eventually settled and everyones happy.

I think Hillis is an unusual talent, a big power back with terrific hands... and he can do a lot in this offense. I do want to "pay the man," but it has to be based in the realities of the present: It's a short-term position and most top teams are getting buy with platoons and relative bargains. "Fair" probably lies somewhere in between. But I'd really, really hate to lose him. Quote:

I think it's all posturing with one exception. I think the media and his agent are the ones doing all the posturing. Hillis just doesn't seem the type to "expect" top dollar, I think he knows what he's worth( he's even been traded by a team who "knew " his worth) the one exception is a statement Hillis supposedly made: "Whenever something's not set in stone, then I guess anything is possible, which means your career's not here," he said. "So, yeah, that definitely worries me." the line " which means your career's not here".. Guy has said he thinks he and Cleveland are are made for each other, hopefully the FO will give him fair money( and yes I think posturing is why he's fired two agents) |

That said, we don't even have a clue what his agent has put on the table as a asking price, number of years or how much guaranteed. So, our opinions are based on speculation. |

Cribbs produced beyond one season. And he had years left on a contract that was recently renewed. What if Peyton is asking for a 5 year deal with too much guaranteed money? What if he wants "NFL starting RB"' money that had the market set by AP and CJ? I'm of the impression that Peyton's agent is holding up the contract. |
