All these guys Heckert failed to sign this past offseason, who among them would have vastly improved this team and were worth sitting guys we have now?
If there ever was a free agency period that has so far fallen flat on its face, it is the 2011 free agency period. What a complete snorefest that turned out to be. Yawn.... |
LOL! "Snorefest" That's a keeper for all future discussions.
Back to the point, what WR in FA or even the 1st round of the draft has upgraded an overall passing game for his team? By adding Julio (whom I liked a whole heap a hopa), Roddy White has invented the dropsies and meanwhile Atlanta is an unacceptable 2-3. Even worse? Julio Jones has an injury sidelining him EXACTLY Dez Bryant had as a rookie when Dallas did NOT improve their winning percentages. I say such a thing because Atlanta only lost about 3 games in all of 2010 so that slam dunks not better by a mile. What if they start winning winning again when it's right back to the 13-3 receiving corps they had from 2010? Stay tuned...
Okay, now onto to Cincy where AJ Green is playing extremely well; BUT he's not bettering Diva-queen TO's stats at the #1 WR position & wins are coming via stingy defense. And Torry Smith? He's played 1 game where he had stats looking like difference maker. The rest is a reputation of dropsies and uh-ohs. Picture Rain Man with blazing speed and you don't know whether to get excited or just be glad he plays in a Rathouse.
For those thinking it's only about the 1st round WR - Heyward Bey is finally making you proud in his 3rd season. They sent him off to play dodge ball with elementary school kids in the offseason and it's really paying off. Denver has a 1st round WR named DeMaryius Thomas that plays behind a WR named Decker (out of the University of Minnesota of all places). The NFL draft for the right front offices can snag the Mike Wallaces, DeSean Jacksons and Pierre Garcons after round 1 pretty routinely.
Understanding ALL of that, then WHY the Hell do I want a WR in round one next year? Because the Browns have gone after the following guys in round 2 without much luck: Lawyer Tillman (Bernie to the Attorney), Patrick "Skid" Rowe (double check that rd), KJ (actually had 17 TD recepetions in 2 of his first 3 seasons), Denise "Needs Earplugs" Northcutt (all yuck no yac), Andre Davis (if he only stayed healthy once we'd see more 97 yard TD receptions), Quincy "Only Catches Criticism" Morgan; and my endurance for it all was shotso. This was like having a nightmare that you've been reincarnated as a muffler and you can only wake up exhausted. We've been snakebitten to say the least, so I'd love to pretend we're just like 31 other teams if we actually had been. Unfortunately, we've only been like Detroit.
