Admit it that was hyperbole. The passing game is worse this season than last season? Puh-lease dude. Now do I expect the change to the WCO to produce more than it has with this QB and HC? Absolutely. We do have 10 games left to figure out one of those variables.

But passing game is worse than 2010? No way.

Except Alex Smith and his 21 turnovers his second season. Nobody made excuses for him, right? Come to think of it he actually was allowed to play the entire season, so how about we give this QB (OUR QB) the 10 games left, okay.

I'd have to go do the math, but I am going by my "eye" test as others stated. You can't go only by stats. Shurmur is asking McCoy to throw a LOT more. But to me, McCoy looks much less comfortable, he made more mid range throws last year, and didn't have those "happy feet".

I'm eating lunch, maybe I'll do the math after.

But I also agree, there are 10 games to fiugre it out. And to me the causes are things that can be figured out. with help from McCoy and Shurmur both.

This years O is bad in different ways than last years. Both are bad. But at least this year CLE looks like they are trying to run a pro offense.

Ok so this is 8 games vs 6. But I'd argue I am being nicer to you, because if we count his 1st 6 games last year to the 1st 6 this year. It's even better last year. His worst two games were the last 2.

this year is on top, last year on bottom

G Att Comp Pct Att/G Yds Avg Yds/G TD TD% Int Int% Lng 20+ 40+ Sck Rate
6 252 141 56.0 42.0 1,377 5.5 229.5 8 3.2 4 1.6 56 8 1 13 75.4
8 222 135 60.8 27.8 1,576 7.1 197.0 6 2.7 9 4.1 47 23 2 23 74.5

So his completion % was higher, his average was higher. the only places you see this year as better is in total yds and TD-int. And look at what some people are complaining about most. 20+ yard completions. 23-8 in favor of last year. Now again. 6 games vs 8. but if he throws for 20+ yards 15 times in the next 2 games, I think we'd all be thrilled!

I am not comparing the offense overall. and one place I'd agree with you is that Shurmur is less predictable than Daboll was. But when looking at Colt specifcially. I think he was better last year. And I think some of that is Shumur's fault so far. now can it change fast if things start to "click"? yeah it can.

Golf, do you think we need to bring in an OC next year or stick with Shurmur calling his own plays?

Me personally, I'd like to see an actual OC brought in next year. I think it's too much juggling for a HC to call his own plays.

Actually I want an OC, but not to take playcalling away from him. More to give him an extra guy to lean on during the week when other duties of HC pull him away from the offense.

My problem with his playcalling is not the scheme, it's the fact that he's calling plays like this offense has already hit it's stride, instead of calling plays to help them suceeed first. I saw it all pre-season. and I said back then "he's using the game to teach them the WCO" which was fine then. Now he needs to call plays more to win. And you knwo what, I actually think he did that this game. Turning to Hardesty more than I think he would have previously.

Colt has not been as good. But there is another factor today compared to last year. The oppossing DC and D has a lot more tape on Colt now than they did through 6 or 8 games last year. Teams make adjustments to take away what Colt had success with. Now he has to make the adjustment to what Ds are now throwing at him.

I think an OC is needed. Not sure the OC needs to have the play calling duty. Golf summed up my same thinking on it.
