(So nobody will have to waste the typing time, I said it myself.) Tony Pike is now scheduled to visit the Browns and Chiefs, in addition to the three teams he's already visited. Steuber says the Browns are still rumored to be chasing Kevin Kolb. The current asking price is two #1s... but one suspects that will fall. Would Heckert trade the #7 pick for Kolb? Here's guessing he would, from what we've read about that love affair. |

| If we are going to mortgage the farm for a "franchise" QB by trading 2 #1's for him, wouldn't you rather it be Bradford than Kolb? I certainly would.

Personally, I'd rather go Berry or Haden and hope to G-d Holmgren can work some magic with a 5th round QB, but if it's between Bradford and Kolb, I vote Bradford.

There's a lot of teams winning by prioritizing safety over quarterback in this league, getting the safety early in the draft and fishing for the most important position in team sports much later in the draft. Wait. No there isn't. Who found their franchise quarterback in the fifth round over the past six, seven years? Fourth? Third? Sixth? MZ, either you're drunk or just fucking with us now. |

On the Kafka front: On the front story on OBR, Sobo talks of his "infatuation" with Kafka. He calls him athletic and a very natural thrower, a guy he'd draft in the fourth round. But again... who has pulled this off? Who found their long-term starter in the fourth round? |

| So disagreeing = drunk? That's not fair. In my eyes, we hired a guy like Holmgren to TUTOR a QB and make him into something special. My opinion states that that guy need not be a top prospect, but a smart guy with some ability who is willing to work his ass of and learn. |

Maybe we can break new ground, draft Mike Kafka late in 3 or early in 4, let him learn the offense for two years, and then he's our franchise quarterback for 10. It just hasn't happened. Guys drafted later who HAVE made it (Schaub, Hasselbeck) hit with a second team because they were drafted to be backups. Edwards, Frye, Croyle, Walter, Greene... that LONG list of guys taken in rounds 3 and later... they've never become long-term solutions for the team that drafted them. Almost every quarterback drafted in the 3rd or 4th round is willing to work his ass off to succeed. There's a reason they were passed over all those times, a reason they weren't drafted up there with the guys who ARE starting: They just aren't as good. But seriously: It'd be a great story and I'd farging love it. I'm a HUGE fan of smart quarterbacks, and I do think the mind is the most important asset at the position. It'd be great to draft Kafka and find a star in two years. (BTW, maybe that's why I like Bradford and Kafka, who got 36s on their Wonderlic.) |
