| At least this could be the next thing you read about due to the Madden curse. ![]() Poor Peyton, when it rains, it pours........................ [line]-[/line] Browns RB Hillis apologizes for missing kids' Halloween party BEREA, Ohio -- With his image tattered and his reputation under attack, Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis tried to stiff arm past another mess in a season spiraling out of control. Hillis apologized Wednesday for missing a kids Halloween party that he was supposed to attend, blaming his unexcused absence on a miscommunication. Hillis failed to show up at the Boys & Girls Club on Monday to hand out candy to 50 children at the event, which was hosted by former Browns offensive lineman LeCharles Bentley, a club board member.
"I've always made community events before, (but) that shouldn't be an excuse now. Like I said, I'm sorry about everything, and hopefully in the near future, we can be able to make that up." Bentley had secured a commitment that Hillis would attend from Kyle Hillis, the running back's brother and business manager. Hillis didn't name his brother when addressing his reasons for missing the event, a nonappearance that triggered a backlash from Cleveland fans and a public-relations gaffe the running back couldn't afford. Hillis didn't take any questions and promised to talk again Thursday. Bentley was furious with Hillis following Monday's event and vented on his Twitter page, posting: "Peyton Hillis looking for 10mil guaranteed from Browns and can't show up to kids charity event? (hash)ManPlease."
Hillis has to now wonder if the tribute is more of a curse. His second season with Cleveland has been entangled in controversy, and he has been sidelined the past two weeks after injuring his hamstring Oct. 16 against the Oakland Raiders. He returned to practice last Wednesday, but he suffered a setback and missed last Sunday's loss at San Francisco. On Wednesday, coach Pat Shurmur initially told reporters that Hillis would practice as the Browns prepared for this Sunday's game at Houston. However, Hillis was dressed in sweats and left the field with a trainer shortly after the media was allowed in to watch the first 15 minutes. Hillis was listed as "did not participate" on the Browns' first injury report of the week, and his status for Sunday's game is uncertain. Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press [line]-[/line] |

Not sure I see this one as the media picking Hillis apart. He made a mistake or someone around him did. He missed a charity event which IS a big deal. The media is reporting on it. He's appologized. It's kind of a weak appology, but it's an apology. I don't see one place in that story where anyone is saying he didn't go because of his contract issues. If they had then yeah maybe they are picking him apart. But I don't see that.

Both Hillis and Bentley are at fault imo. Bentley should not have been interjecting himself into Hillis's contract negotiations by putting that 10M in his tweet (really should not have tweeted at all about the whole thing). Hillis committed to being there and should have been. His "people" are an extension of him and he needs to realize that. If his "people" are committing him to things and he doesn't know that's his problem to fix.

Really, has it got to this. You are spinning the spin dude. Everyone that is injured isn't faking an injury. If there was even a clue he was faking his mates would be all over his ass. The man has more to lose not playing then playing. Conspiracy aside are you just overly frustrated or were you at practice and know this from being around the team. |

If I was a board member at B&G's club and someone I was counting on didn't show, I would be pissed as well. Should LCB have tweeted his displeasure? Certainly not. BUT Hillis needs to put his big boy pants on and take responsibility for letting a bunch of children down (which he has done) and then go out and earn people's trust again. His contract negotiations shouldnt have anything to do with his activities off the field but unfortunately they do and this certainly doesn't help his case. I think it would be in his best interest to put the contract talks on hold until the end of the season and focus on getting back onto the field to prove his worth. |

He had strep and missed a game. Hurt his hammy and missed another 2 games. He missed the Boys and Girls club function. Tough year so far, but I think he is smart enough to know that playing, not sitting, is better for his career. I think if Hillis could be out there he would be out there. |
