You seem to be suggesting the majority of the team consisted of aged worthless journeymen. (which if true doesn't really explain how we stayed competitive) Sorry, but those guys were brought in to accomplish one thing, and that is to accelerate the growth of the MYRIAD of young players we had on our roster. Just because a couple of extremely old farts skew the "average age" quotient, doesn't mean a damned thing. They were brought in to lead by example, and to show the young guys how to work & play like pros ...not to carry us to the playoffs. The end.
Name them... No problem.. I was not SUGGESTING they were old.. They were old. And not very good. It's a fact. I'll just give you the older mediocre/bad players who were starters or regular contributors to. I'll not list the sucky young guys and the old backups we chopped off the roster too. Just the old journeyman..I'll restrict it to 29 or older..

And the answer to why they were competive..Older experienced veterans will play better than young guys with no experience.. I don't think I said the players were worthless. But said it is worthless keeping the old guys over the current youth movement.
But fact is ..we went 5-11 with the older veterans. I believe will be better in the long run giving young guys with potential, playing time..than old guys who are were not getting any better and not going to be here in 3 years anyway.

(these guys are all a year older now too)

Mike Brown 30 still here and always below average
Sheldon Brown 32 (still here and slowing down)
Ben Watson 30 (still decent..but not the guy he once was.. average TE now Porkchop Womak 33 brought in on the downside
John St. Clair 33 sucked
Kenyon Coleman 31 terrible
Robaire Smith 33 once good brought in on the downside
Eric Barton 33 old and slow
Scott Fujita 31 (still here/average and needs replaced)
Abe elam 29 never more than a backup who started for us
Jake Delhomme 35.. brought in way way way on the downside.
Phil Dawon 35 but still the man.

That's not a few old farts as you suggest.. that's a whole bunch. A dozen to be exact..

Even with Dawson throwing some weight to the old side..we are still 4th youngest now after axing most of the above noted guys.

Not one playmaker in the bunch. I did not even mention the old backups..these are just the starters and regular contributors
There are about 5-6 more from the prior season that fit into the above catagory too. I can list them if this list is not convincing enough.

A few of these other guys may have been good at one point..but they are all average or below average now.. Thankfully most have been chopped So did these guys really brought us nothing other than helping us lose games by a slightly closer margin of losing. Losing sucks.. by small or large margins. Our going from 3rd oldest last year to 4th youngest this year is the right thing to do..

I must have missed the memo, when did we sign Mike Brown? Oh right, we didn't. After the Bears cut him the Chiefs snatched him up. He hasn't played in the NFL since the 2009 season.

Who was traded for by.... By.... The current regime who you're trying to defend.

Except the best season he ever had was last year and as McCoy can attest to he was a huge asset to the rookie QB. Btw, 30 for a TE isn't exactly old, in fact tight ends regularly play into their mid 30's and he was a great 3-5 year stopgap to pick up.

St. Clair lasted a season, Womack was a good RG for us. So who exactly were we supposed to sign with zero cap room in 2009 for those gaping holes on the line, again? Maybe we should've drafted a RT and a Guard in 2009.... Too bad exactly one Tackle from that draft class, Sebastian Vollmer and two Guards from the entire class, Andy Levitre and Matt Slauson are worth a damn. The rest went busto bust.

I'll leave out that EM really, really wanted Jared Veldeer who has been a solid RT for the Raiders in last years draft, unfortunately Heckert decided to trade the Iggles a bunch of draft picks to draft an injury prone scrub at RB.

Except he ranked near the top of the list of 3-4 DE's in production last season but okay, sure, he's somehow "terrible" i'm guessing because who brought him in. 50 solo tackles and 2.5 sacks as a 3-4 DE, yeah not garbage.

Whom you can thank Savage for and whom barely played last season.... Oh btw, remember how I mentioned Veldheer above a moment ago? EM also wanted to go after a 3-4 DE to replace Smith. Again, Heckert blew his load on Hardesty and wouldn't trade up to draft EM's top choice Corey Peters(Who already has 4 sacks and 48 tackles in Atlanta) to replace Smith.

And yet twice as productive as an "old guy" as the $16 million dollar man Chris Gocong in addition to as DQJ and our other young pups put it being "a tremendous teacher."

You're REALLY reaching. 29 is an old player? Really? Really? Yeah not quite. As for his ability i'd take Elam over Ward who quits on plays and gets burned anyday.

Thank St. Holmgren. Btw which 30+ year old QB was the previous staff to play, JDH or Cancer Wallace? I guess this is where we leave out it was made known McCoy was off limits and wasn't their QB to play, their choices decided for them was Delhomme or Seneca Wallace.

You certainly like to reach to spin things against Mangini. Did he run over your dog or what?

Those guys your defending won HOW many games? This is not about coaches or GM's ..it's about players and the currentn youth movement.. not sure why your making it something it's not. and I support every regime..I supported Mangini.. I did not think he was very good..But then you can add him to the entire list of coaches we had since Marty left. I have not liked any of them very much. But I supported them.. I don't agree with every move..but I support them.

I can't imagine the atmosphere that the Browns had in the 90's before they moved... but its that atmosphere that gives Cleveland a reputation. It's something we as a team would like to be able to keep but with the porous offense and constant sub .500 seasons, managment shuffles, coaching shuffles, player shuffles. It's hard to create something that can compete in the NFL for the long term with that much turbulence in the internal structure of the team. It starts at the top and works its way down boys.

I've said what I will about Shurmur, about Colt, about the team and about managment and the coaches to date but I will say this, going against the Texans I would at least like to see us make a game of it. I don't care if it's ugly, I expect it to be ugly but I don't want to get embarrassed by Houston's offense. I believe our secondary can keep them in check, especially if Haden's healthy but Arian Foster scares the crap out of me...

to me, it is about coaching in one aspect....

having a youth movement means squat if the people teaching them the pro game are completely clueless on providing the tools to help them succeed. these young guys are coming in and getting information, likely the wrong information, from a guy that hasn't even learned his own job. he's been a position coach his entire life, save the 2 years in STL as a terrible OC. my fear is that when we start bringing in the offensive players, they're gonna bust due to poor coaching. we've seen it in the past with other picks....when they went to another team they suddenly knew what was going on. is this the change of scenery everyone talks about?

one thing is for sure....everyone on the offense looks confused. the system is not being taught well.....for whatever reason. murmur needs to figure that out.

Seriously??!?!?! I thought you were leaving indefinitely?

You really don't know when to STFU do you?

Just because YOU harbor some unrequited love lorn for the Baltimore Ravens (you know, YOUR team) doesn't mean the rest of us feel that way.

GO BROWNS!!!

Please, YAGE again, I could use the laughs.
