Does anybody know what kind of coin this guy is making and exactly what role he has with this team right now? I can't dig anything up on his contract status but my gut says it is pretty damn nice if I remember correctly. What exactly does he advise on? Is he happy with the "7 yard curl and cloud of deflected pass dust" that Shurms calls each play? I know guys like Ytown were big advocates of this guy, but I see nothing but a guy collecting a paycheck on Randy's dime and kicking back. What could this guy possibly be doing to deserve his contract, whatever it is? Thoughts? Cleveland Browns name Gil Haskell senior adviser to Mike Holmgren | cleveland.com For 15 of the 17 seasons that Browns President Mike Holmgren coached Green Bay and Seattle, one of his closest assistant coaches was Gil Haskell. Now Holmgren is bringing Haskell to Cleveland. Haskell, 66, was named senior adviser to the president by Holmgren. The move was first reported in The Plain Dealer on Jan. 31. Haskell was offensive coordinator under Holmgren for nine seasons in Seattle, doubling as assistant head coach the last two. In Green Bay, Haskell coached running backs and then receivers. Haskell left Holmgren for two years to serve as offensive coordinator of Carolina in 1998-99. In their announcement, the Browns did not elaborate on Haskell's specific responsbilities as senior adviser. It is believed that one will be to assist in the evaluation of the Browns offense.

It's really simple Riff, he WAS hired to help evaluate the offense, the players. However when he realized the problem with the offense is the guy calling the plays that is Holmgren's boy, what can Haskel say? He can't come out publically with the truth. so he starts to fade into the background and collect a check.

The more I think about Haskell's roll on the team (I recall he earns a pretty big pay check, something like 6 Mill? I can't confirm this though, a quick Google search reveals his page on the ClevelandBrowns.com website: Quote:

__________________ BROWNS 2012: Its Weeden's job to lose, it was the second we took him #22 overall. We had a pretty good draft, and I'd like to start seeing some results. Fans already looking to next year and I don't blame them. I think we will have things to be excited about that we lacked last year and we have some real facepalm moments just like last year. It's going to be tough. We aren't Barking Hard for nothing. WOOF WOOF WOOF! ![]() |

I don't think any of us know (yet) how much of Shurmur's playcalling or system are the result of bad personnel decisions made by "H3," but I think there have been many, especially on offense and especially-especially as it pertains to passing the football and scoring points. We could've done a couple little things in free agency -- like James Jones and one of the many young RTs we talked about -- that might have made a big difference. We could've drafted Julio Jones. We could've traded up those three spots to get Corey Peters and skipped Colt McCoy, which was Plan A all along. We could've done SOMETHING other than Jake Delhomme, which ended up just as nutty as it looked at the time. We could've started the inevitable transition to the WCO the year BEFORE the inevitable strike. We could've skipped pretending like Robiskie and Massoquoi were starting NFL WRs and dug deep to find better ones. We could've drafted a lineman in the last draft higher than round 5. We could've done more in free agency in general. I was HUGELY into bringing in Holmgren and Heckert, so no mommy issues, no agenda... I just think they've been pretty bad so far. I simply don't know how to judge Shurmur with no running backs, no WRs, no arm at QB, and a left guard who's really, really sucking bad after we lost a good one. |

I thought maybe Adkins or Sobo might have some info on what the guy is doing here.

Here, for the reading impaired: Haskell was brought in to evaluate offensive talent. Ta-dah! Last edited by Brown Warrior; 11-13-2011 at 12:53 PM. |

Haskell gets a 7 figure salary to tell Big Mike or "Coach" as he likes to be called - "Yeah Coach the offense looks like shit!" Oh, and be Mike's BFF in lonely Cleveland where he doesn't have anyone cool to hang out with.

Well, it was nice chatting with y'all the last week or so. Being that the broken record is back derailing every thread and making them about "passing league", "colt sux", "my FA wishlist", "Julio Jones would make us awesome", "Barkley has a great ass".....suddenly the football discourse has plummeted and been replaced by one continual expression despite different thread titles. Take care! |
