Default Pat Shurmur has a pulse. #Browns

I know this was brought up in another thread, but I thought The Shurminator, Murmur, or whatever you like calling him deserved some credit in his own thread.

Guys on local radio here are kind of making fun of him, saying it seemed kind of forced or contrived ...but whatever, it's Shurmurs version of bringing the thunder.

He starts getting worked up at about 3:50 into it ...

Good move Gabe. I thought this deserved its own thread too but I already started enough today.

Glad you brought it up.

Honestly, I want to somehow derive hope out of some of the things I saw today ...but then I keep reminding myself that we just lost to a 1 win team, and that doesn't jive with my glimmer of hope.

I'm happy we saw them do some of the things we've been urging them to do, but still mystified by a lot of it.

I'm not impressed at all. Really.

The "I wanted to make sure we got points" thing is crazy. Yes, you have to get a FG there minimum. However, to try and WIN the football game you have to try to get a TD. There's way too damn much time left to rely on a FG.

Insane.

On this we agree. Cut it loose. The chicken/egg thing with McCoy and Shurmur can end by simply playing to win and attacking the defense. We're not going to get a trophy for throwing the fewest picks after we're 3-13 and last in the league in scoring.

Again... what do we have to lose?

Throw another fade to Moore (First one nearly worked).

Run a screen to Cribbs.

Run a toss sweep (we didn't run ONE today, might have caught them off guard).

Do ANYTHING other than 3 dives.

And don't ever, ever ever, let me see a TE take a hand off again.

I could only watch about a minute of it before I nearly lost my dinner.

He's just so...whiny or something...irritating...and TOTALLY not someone I'd want being the face of my organization.

Its pretty offensive as a life long fan that Shurmur takes offense to being asked about a handoff to a TE. I mean that ranks right up there with the "defense still in the huddle" play against the Bengals. Not nearly as influential a play on the overall result, but such a novice looking thing.

I mean, really. A handoff to Alex Smith. We actually called that play?

Shame on you Pat.

Again, from Terry Pluto:

Quote:
8. Smith fumbled the handoff, but it was recovered by Cribbs. Shurmur was angry when asked about it: "We tried to hand him the football and he dropped it, that's the thinking. There are so many things that happened in that game. Missing the kick, dropping the [ball], there were a lot of things."
9. Nonetheless, it was a legitimate question, because it risked the thing Shurmur feared most -- a turnover -- because Smith doesn't take handoffs. Why not allow McCoy to roll out and see if he could create a touchdown? That makes more sense than handing the ball to Smith.
Seriously. You'd prefer to try a virgin QB/RB exchange than let McCoy take a shot?

I'm not sure when I'll get over how this game was coached over the last five minutes.

Shurmur acts like Colt has pulled a Frye act already down at the goal line. Again, where is a QB draw in this playbook? I just saw Dirt do one earlier and Colt is way more mobile than him. A rollout with a run pass option I guess would have been too risky you know?

I mean, just say it to yourself slowly and see how it feels:

"Okay, Marecic is out and I really wanted to run that FB dive. Fuck it, Alex should be able to hold on to a handoff right? Okay, Colt! Run stack-I, FB dive, on one."

I mean I can't even follow the logic. At all.
