Great job Sez. There was even 1 more they didn't draft but added as an undrafted rookie at 1 time: Kurt Warner. So they've had Favre, Hasselbeck, Brunnell and Warner. None of them were first round prospects.

Brunell wasn't brought in to be the Packers starter. He was brought in to be a backup, looked good in preseason ops, and was traded for more pragmatic assets, as we've discussed.

But yes, Holmgren had some time with him and I'm sure it was valuable to him. I guess you could say the same for whoever coached Schaub for three years, though. And Kolb.

Wrong.. You always draft a player to be on the field and play..otherwise you don't draft him. They only got favre the year prior so he really did not know he had a hall of fame QB at that time. Yeah, Brunnel was initially likely drafted to be favres backup knowing they could hopefully develop him into a starter..that is the goal for every team with every qb ever drafted... . Injuries happen all the time. We have 2 QB's on the roster right now who can start..thus our argument for taking a qb after the first round to develop. I know you are not sold on Delhomme and Wallace. I on the otherhand think Mike knows what he is doing by bringing these 2 guys in.

You think the Packers drafted Brunell in the fifth round to be "on the field?" Were they gonna move Favre to WR or something?

That's not true at all, Sez. Any QB the Packers drafted was going to be a backup. It's like saying the Patriots drafted Cassell to be a starter.

So the Pack draft Brunell, and the Pats draft Cassel and they both "hit."

So while they were not drafted to be starters for those teams, they certanly increased the value of the pick, AND became starters.

Which means now you can actually say that hitting in lower rounds is not as impossible as it used to be, if you have the time and the correct coaching.

Rare? Yes. Not impossible, especially with Holmgren, who already admits you look for your starters in the top 10 picks of the draft.

But you pick these guys every other year because sometimes.........

I actually think that's put about right, Veg. I think the only difference is that we don't have a Brady or Favre, so our draft pick isn't as much a "flier" as Cassell or Brunell.

What does that change? I think for one thing that we'll pick a guy no later than early round 3, but more likely at 38 (McCoy). We ARE looking for a starter in 2011 or 2012.
