Default Steeler Fans

I have found a great way of pissing them off and putting them on the defensive while doing it in a polite way. This works like a charm so please try to follow:

Whenever I meet or am introduced to someone and somehow the favorite team topic comes up, I state that I am a proud Browns fan and always have been, always will be--like it's no big deal. When they come back with the inevitable "I'm a huge Steeler fan so I hope you don't mind" type of response, I simply say something to the following--

"Oh, no big deal whatsoever, EVERYBODY is a Steelers fan nowadays, so I am quite used to it--doesn't bother me a bit".

They don't know what to say and it immediately puts them on the defensive. One thing for sure is, it takes away their want to seem so damn important and cool right off the bat. Another words, there is nothing special about the fact you are a Steelers fan, they are everywhere--You are a follower and have no loyalty.

The responses I get are hysterical. Generally, they right off the bat want to tell me they have been a fan for so and so years. Some say ten for example, so I simply ask why only ten with a perplexed look. If they say their whole life, I say politely that they must have grown up in the Pittsburgh area so that is fine. When they come back with the fact they were born right here and lived right here their whole life, I say something to the effect of "Hmm, never figured out that one, you must have jumped on board during the 70's Super Bowl years?"

Any way around it, if they are not literally lifelong Pitt fans who were born there or lived there at some point, they generally tend to feel like I want them to, which is a pussy bandwagonner living off their adopted team so they can pretend the team's success means their own personal success.

When this is done right, it is a thing of beauty. Coming across as the loyal fan who is perplexed why someone would root for this area's arch enemy---all while being polite---works like a charm. It has the affect I am looking for, which is don't act like you are better than me because you are a pussy Steeler fan, I'll take my honest and loyal approach to fandom any day so carry on with your bad self--you are boring me. With women, all I say is "Oh, that's fine. I can't remember the last gal I met who wasn't a Steeler fan now."

Heh heh, Happy Holidays everyone.

I refined this technique last night. I was out with my honey in her hometown of Alliance and beings we are new in our relationship, she wants me to meet all her people. She is actually a Pitt fan because she lived most of her life there, but she loves how I am true to my roots.

Anyway, she introduced me to a group of folks and almost all of them were Pitt fans from right there in Alliance. They were all going on about how and why they are a Pitt fan and I felt like the winner when all was said and done. It was great, one of by better moments of representing the Browns as a real fan

I live about 40 minutes from Alliance myself and there are a bunch of Steeler fans in my hometown too. The guy at work always has smart ass remarks to say about the Browns or OSU (he's a Michigan fan too) but when you tease him about his teams he gets all pissy! Ha ha!

He claims to be a life long fan but I don't think so.

Great Riff!

Usually, when someone I meet or am introduced to tells me they're a steeler fan, my response is a simple "I'm sorry".

LOL!!

I have no shame in my Browns fandom either. Around here there are mostly Redskin fans, and now Baltimore fans. And the requisite steeler bandwagoners. They don't really have a home team here so I kinda understand the folks who have chosen to follow any other team.

I'm going to use this next time I encounter a Stooler fan. I'll put him in his place!

We had a pretty good draft, and I'd like to start seeing some results.
Fans already looking to next year and I don't blame them.
I think we will have things to be excited about that we lacked last year and we have some real facepalm moments just like last year.
It's going to be tough.
We aren't Barking Hard for nothing.

I like to ask:
What did you do with your old Dallas Cowboys jacket?

I still remember some wise-ass from Pittsburgh invading our old message board thinking he was gonna stir up trouble. You, me and KOKs swarmed that Sodderhead with reminders of all the former Steelers that caused the book "False Glory" to get published about his former teammates. We attacked that puke like he was some poor Domino's Pizza Delivery boy bringing pizza to a fraternity house after a party; where the most generous tip he got was "if you want to stay safe - don't come back."

Love that one. Gonna try yours out Riff. It's definitely better than my response. I kill them. Well definitely safer at least.

Ahh yes the NC Knucklefuck, good times! It would appear he found a more, ehem accommodating "Browns" forum full of leeches who don't care and will even defend his bandwagon jumping as long as they keep getting nosebleed tickets to Browns games. I use Browns fans in quotations because really, what self respecting Browns fan would invite bandwagon Stool fans to come tailgating at the games while telling died in the wool Browns fans they're not welcome?

This is outstanding Riff; my usual retort is that everyone has their faults....but I am going to have to give this a go

It is annoying how many Stool fans are about our state
