James Davis is supposedly back an healthy. He is a good looking RB---We don't need another in our best rounds. Stack up on Corners and Safeties.

I don't agree. He has good hands, great vision, and has shown breakaway speed on numerous occasions....not to mention grit to break tackles and make blocks on the special teams.

If he gets a chance to REALLY FOCUS on becoming a WR...he may be a gem at the position.

This actually may be a reason we have been looking at a bunch of guys with return abilities.

Bad hands is most often a symptom in the NFL, not the reason. Get a guy into a rhythm and comfortable with the QB and its gold.

Wait... why do we think Cribbs has struggled at WR so much? Because he's too good?

It doesn't have to be. IF we ever asked Cribbs to just focus on being a WR - I think he'd do just fine. Hear me out.

I'll listen to any rationale that says investing time in Cribbs at WR is a waste of time if you rerad the following first:

1. BECAUSE Cribbs is our gunner on punts - he consistently gets through double team press coverages to be our first man downfield covering punts. He's put in this role because he's the best player on the team at doing so. It's a SKILL that should make his release off the line of scrimmage into any pass route as easy as breathing.

2. Making about 7 appearances at WR in 60 minutes hardly ever allows/promotes any degree of continuity and chemistry with him and whatever struggling QB we had at the time. It's not enough chemistry with a QB where that QB is gonna be on the same page with his every move or make him the go-to guy.

3. DA was such a terrible QB that it's been difficult to fairly assess any of our WRs.

4. I enjoy seeing Cribbs with an open field so if we can get him in open space as a WR - I think it's better than this wildcat fad I'm not overly fond of.

5. If you're concerned about his hands or perceived lack-there-of, try to remember the first time we asked him to return punts when Northcutt was still here but injured one game. Many, including Savage, informed us we had no replacement for Northcutt in the punt return game. Guess what happened when Cribbs practiced and prepared weekly for punt return duties? He UPGRADED Northcutt.

6. When Cribbs was informed he wasn't good enough for the Indy Combines or to be drafted - did he allow that to be the conclusion? Good for him - Indy doesn't measure the size of a guy's heart or the boundaries of his soul.

7. I'd like to finally see us have him FOCUS and prepare to play WR. There's no such thing as a successful part time WR. I see no reason why our best player in open fields couldn't excel in the slot when he puts his mind to it and gets enough practice reps to do some damage. I'm not a big fan of the wildcat at all because I see it more of a gimmick that defenses in our conference and division will catch up to. Understanding this, I see more upside for him at WR. Wasn't Hines Ward a QB at Georgia before makign a name for himself as STs All Pro? Cribbs has the same competitive mind set.

8. The following WRs didn't emerge as stars until at least their 3rd seasons: Vincent Jackson, Sidney Rice, Robert Meachem, Lance Moore, Hines Ward, Miles Austin, Calvin Johnson, Roddy White, Kevin Walter, Brandon Marshall... That's quite a few guys. Buffalo's Andre Reed couldn't break 1000 yards until his 5th NFL season just to show people this might be the 2nd most difficult offensive position to learn. A young WR is also at the mercy of his QB talent and surrounding talent.

9. Wes Welker could prolly best explain how a presence like Watson at TE cleared the no fly zone over the middle for Welker to take advantage of favorable matchups or just plain old open space. That's eggs-actly where we want Cribbs with a football in open space.

Cribbs has been SO good at running the ball out of the Wildcat and returning kicks, so let's use him at......WR, where he's stunk?

I don't understand how people think sometimes. I mean Mangini, not you, Flugs.

Hey - I know.

Let's take a player AWAY from his unusually proficient skill set and make him into something we probably could have just drafted as easily in the third round.

Brilliant idea.

Sorry, as much as I like Cribbs he isn't a quality WR. He can't get separation, runs poor routes and is slow coming out of his breaks. Most CBs cover him one on one with no help. That means they can double the guy on the other side and still keep a safety in the box to stop the run.

It really isn't about who was throwing the ball to him. He doesn't get open. Cribbs split wide as our #2 was like having a decoy.

Put him in the backfield and at least let him go in motion from there. that will get him lined up against a safety or LB. Let the defense have to think what we are going to do with him back there.

Plus, why would Mangini want to convert Cribbs to WR, anyway? He hand-picked his WR corps of the future in the second round just last season!
