Default What would Joe Thomas get you?

How bad do you want to be good?

How long before his value decreases?

Don't be a hater either

I want the Browns to be really good but not at the expense of Joe Thomas. I'd rather trade Hillis, who is my favorite Browns player, than trade Thomas. Thomas deserves to be on a winning team but he's the #1/#2 LT in the league along with Jake Long.

I could see him being like John Ogden and never losing value. I think both he and Long will be those type of lineman where they give you pro-bowl play till they retire.

Unless someone threw me a dream offer... no way do I give up Thomas. Good thread though Hammertime, it will get people thinking.

Basically? He'll get you a 1st round draft pick maybe that you would need to use to draft another LT.

So best case scenario is you just get a younger Joe Thomas.

Worst casae scenario is your new draft pick is not as good as Thomas and you spend a few years trying to solidify that position agian.

I think Thomas has a number of good years left in him. I'd be more worried he leaves her at the end of his next contract than his play diminishes.

This season has frustrated us sooo much that we're starting to suggest getting rid of our favorite players just so they can go to a winning team. Thomas, Cribbs. WOW! How sad is that?? Not meant to be a dig at anyone it's just amazing that it's come to this. There had better be a HUGE improvement next year or I'm afraid this might actually become a hater spot.

Would you really use that pick to get a left tackle though???

I doubt it. Seems there lots of teams who don't pick up that spot till after they learn how to score.

Exactly how has JT helped us win games? I do feel that by the time we resemble an NFL team he'll be on the decline.

I would also expect that whoever is holding onto the Andrew Luck lottery ticket will be wanting something Big.

Is that where we're at right now? We're going to pick apart our arguably best player because he's a lineman who doesn't catch a pass or runs the ball?

I get where you're coming from with the decline thing but getting rid of JT would do nothing but piss off fans and leave another gaping hole to fill.

Edit: I don't think there will be a decline in JT.

JT is probaly the only thing on the Browns O worth a thing.

If you can get Luck by giving up JT, would you do it?

No.

The way I see it is this. This team is so many pieces away from fielding a competitive team it's sickening. Luck could be a great NFL QB, not saying he won't be, but it's still a gamble. Everyone was so sure that Ryan Leaf was going to be just as good as Manning, look how that turned out? Trust me man, I want that franchise QB here just like every other fan but Luck can pan out or he can go down in flames. Also, Luck could be everything we want him to be but with this coaching staff he will struggle.

We have so many holes to fill that I think if we could somehow get Luck we'd still be bottom of the AFC barrel next year. If we give up JT to the Colts in a deal for Luck, who's going to protect Luck's blindside? Sure, we could draft someone else but will they put up the play that JT has? I don't think so.

My point is this. You don't give up a great player like JT in the hopes that you land a great player in Luck. Again, I'm not saying Luck is going to suck but he is still UNPROVEN on a pro level.

I would give up JT for Andrew Luck. If we also threw in Mike Holmgren, Mike Heckert, and Pat Shurmur.

It would be tough to see JT go, but addition by subtraction with the other guys, and a quick emergency break from what we might otherwise have to endure for the next 5-8 years.

I say 5-8, because once we do fire these guys or they retire or whatever, then if we get it right on the next hiring ...we're looking at another 3-4 years to repair the damage done.

Speaking of 3-4 ...man do I miss it. Ruben was a stud @ nose. Gocong was actually serviceable. Intelligent game planning was an option.

I digress.

If Indy wants ONLY JT for the first overall pick? Heck yeah I make that trade. But THAT is not realistic.

He'd be part of a multi pick deal.

I'm not saying i want this to happen, but as the season winds down and the draft talk heats up, everyone's gonna start looking at what ammo they've got if they really want to pry the #1 pick away from Indy.

I still think we could improve by not taking Luck, but we'll be oh so fragile and thin.
