It's been brought up a few times lately, so I grabbed some old data to see how the draft performance since 1999 has been. . . At a very high level, of all 108 players drafted since 1999, there are 20 currently on the team (18.5%). There are an additional 24 players who are active with other teams. The result, 59.3% of players from the Browns drafts are out of football for one reason or another. The longest tenured DRAFTED player is D'Qwell Jackson, drafted in 2006. There are only 6 players on the roster drafted before 2010 (Jackson, Thomas, Rubin, Mack, Massaquoia, and Maiva). (This should illustrate the damage that 'starting from scratch' every few years causes) Some details, the players still on the team:
The players on other teams but still active (including players on IR) in the NFL (according to NFL.com):

I wonder how many of these careers have been 'ruined' by our organization. Like, for instance, if Tim Couch were drafted into a better organization with better coaching and front office, and better tools on the field around him. . . would he have had a more successful career? How many other players did we draft that could have been better given the right environment? William Green? Andre Davis (WR)? Brady Quinn? All of those late round 'busts' that may have developed better in another organization? Nobody can answer that. . . just makes me think. |

Not using everything in our power to put an awesome line in front of him was absolutely glaring. But alluding to another thread we quite completly drafted at an alltime low...for any league! |

Yeah I agree, Tim Couch was an abortion of a draft pick in the sense that if we drafted start it's possible that Tim would maybe still be our QB, coming to the end of a lengthy career where we maybe enjoyed more than ONE playoff game. Instead, shotty O-line got him killed and he had the phantom footsteps in his head probably by his 2nd or 3rd season. Can you imagine having a franchise QB that stays here for his entire career? I can't because it seems like we can't even keep a QB for an entire SEASON without some kind of BS ruining it one way or the other.
__________________ BROWNS 2012: Its Weeden's job to lose, it was the second we took him #22 overall. We had a pretty good draft, and I'd like to start seeing some results. Fans already looking to next year and I don't blame them. I think we will have things to be excited about that we lacked last year and we have some real facepalm moments just like last year. It's going to be tough. We aren't Barking Hard for nothing. WOOF WOOF WOOF! ![]() |
