Shurmur admitted losing this week was his fault.. At least he owns the screwups.. The question is can he fix them going forward..

The team played hard for him the last 2 weeks IMO. That's a good sign. I liked seeing Shurmur express to Wallace that play at the end of the half was unacceptable from a veteran leader he was counting on.

I think that he may be starting to realize there are little things you have to do continually to maintain and improve a football club. The team has played hard for him the past couple of games and we will need another tough game out of this football club this weekend. I think we will need to see some more from Shurmur next season, hopefully a full proper off-season and pre-season will give the guy a fighting chance next year. Every single Cleveland Browns fan dissecting every move he makes, hope he likes the pressure!

We had a pretty good draft, and I'd like to start seeing some results.
Fans already looking to next year and I don't blame them.
I think we will have things to be excited about that we lacked last year and we have some real facepalm moments just like last year.
It's going to be tough.
We aren't Barking Hard for nothing.

I have to give Shumur his props here after calling him out in a few threads. When it got to 17-0 I thought for sure it was going to be 42-14 by the end of the game and the Browns players would give up. they didn't. That does say to me that Ytown was right that at least this team does like and repsect him. Not sure that's enough. But it was more than I thought.

So I say no way players tank games to aid draft postion because no player knows if they are even on the team for the following season.

Now after watching Shurmur botch 3rd down plays, two minute drills etc. and make some bad playcalls at critical times the last few weeks.. I began thinking that a coach CAN do what the players cannot do. Shurmer pretty much has been assured his job next year.. So he CAN deliberately tank games to improve/retain a higher draft spot.. Maybe he is not a lost as a playcaller as he seems in making the critical errors. Maybe he's just crazy like a fox... He did not want to actually win the game.. or games we have played recently... I am not saying this as fact.. just merely curious speculation.. No one can deny that draft position can really make a difference.. especially in rounds 1 and 2 where we have 3 picks. Just a thought..

I don't think you can find a lot of good examples of player's "quitting". Listening to a lot of ex-NFL players they're damn consistent on this topic. They talk about how guys play for their careers, personal pride, and each other.

So, I'm not reading too much into the team still is playing hard or that they like Shurmur. We had those things when RAC was head coach and where did that get us?

What I'm still befuddled by is the lack of improvement over last year's squad (including the additional year of roster movements by Heckert) and the significant gaffes by this team throughout the season. I guess I'm up for another year of Shurm's simply because I want continuity so bad, but he's making it really tough for me to be excited about it. Really tough.

I guess I need to grade Shurmur Soft since that's the topic of the thread. I give him an F. We have shown a clear cut path of regression in all phases of the game, we've become the softest team in the NFL and a weekly blooper reel. At the same time he has pissed off and aliented numerous players who have publicly called him out, put our QB's life at risk in a game we weren't going to win while making excuses for his ineptitude after every loss.

Unfortunately he won't be going anywhere for another season despite it being crystal clear he IS a guy so bad he shouldn't get a 2nd year.

Seems to be doing the exact opposite of what you would expect during some of these games. If that's his "plan" do you think the players would pick up on it and if so how are they reacting to it behind closed doors? It would seem to be a little frustrating to think a coach has NO confidence in the team he's fielding so the effort on said plays might be a little lacking. How can the team have faith in a coach who has no faith in his team? All that aside since it's clear there will be an OC brought in next year so while I agree his grade should be incomplete I think he's on the lower end of that grade.
I really can't believe a coach would alienate his players resorting to stunts like that- they'd see right though it.

To quote Bill Belichick "I can only go by what I see." And what I see is I have to agree with Akron Joe- Shurmur at this point is the worst coach in the history of the Cleveland Browns- and I've seen them all. I hope I'm wrong, and the guy does a 180 turn around next year.

Oh yeah I went to the extreme on that one. Since we all can't spend the weeks after games commenting on the progress and promise we're seeing some of us get a little freaky.
