Default Some Post-Season Thoughts

- If we have even a resemblance of a professional offense... this team beats Pitt both times IMO. Close games where our D kept us in it but our O just couldn't get the points.

- We desperately need some WR's that can catch. That's all I gotta say about that.

- I don't think our D is as bad as it has sometime showed this year. I think inexperience, injury and the need of upgrades at a couple positions is what held the D back. Look at the D and I think you'll see what I'm saying. Usama Young first year as a full time starter, 2 rookies starting on our D-Line. Desperately need an upgrade at DE opposite Sheard (who played like a damn beast this year). Gocong is a fringe starter on any other team, he's made some plays these last few weeks but any other team he'd be a rotational guy I think. Our other OLB spot suffered when Fujita went down and needs upgraded. Finally we need another good CB because Patterson is not a starter and Brown is in all likelihood going to be released unless they keep him for depth.

- Our O-Line has seemed to gel a little better these last weeks but injury was a big culprit on how badly they played into the middle of the season. Guys were being moved around a lot and we missed out on Steiny's leadership.

- QB... Idk whether it is McCoy or the WR's but when Wallace has played I think the offense moved a little better. Not saying Wallace is good because he's not, but to me the offense had a bit more of a spark. That could be due to Wallace having experience in a WCO or McCoy is really just a career backup.

- I've been critical of him but I admit I was wrong. Resign Hillis. When healthy the guy can be a great back for us.

I think we should target the defensive upgrades in the 2nd or 3rd round as well as FA. If we can, bring in a veteran WR through FA and try to draft a stud one in the first round. If we have a chance to draft Luck then we take it. We're going to be drafting #4 or #5 and unless Indy want's a ton for him then I say we make the trade and grab him. That's if Indy is willing to trade. They may not be. Time will tell.

Other opinions are happily welcome!

the west coast offense is dead.

sheard is a definite keeper.

TJ ward needs to stay healthy.

RT is a huge need.

massaquoi has no right to be in the NFL.

norwood, moore, and cribbs have the only reliable hands on the team.

shurmur has no testosterone.

hardesty is worthless.

the FO needs to re-sign hillis—there's no need to create another hole on an already thin team.

there's not much positive to say about this year. the team didn't play better as the season progressed. the same issues that were there in the beginning were there at the end; if anything, they got worse. i know that stability is they key to building a winning program, but why stick with something that obviously doesn't work?

Well done everyone. Anyone notice the BALLS Jim Harbaugh has to reward his team's efforts all day long with? He'll take a 4th down and prefer to score a TD instead of kicking it or punting it into an end zone. Anyway, their game winning pass came from place kicker David Akers to a Michael Crabtree standing all by himself on the left sideline. And then we UNDERSTAND what makes a team rallying around a coach who believes in them in going for the win instead of playing footsies with the football on 4th down.

Remember Sean Payton kicking the onside kick to Indy which changed the momentum/complexion of the game in favor of the Saints. When you add 2 testicles to the Ain'ts you get the Superbowl Champion Saints. When you castrate all the sweat that defense gave on the day - you deserve to see your punt become a touch-back.

What difference does it make if Pittsburgh beats us by 4 points or 10 points when your goal for the day isn't to score 1 offensive TD? This game doesn't reward teams that want to play chicken-shit football. It rewards the guys like Payton and Harbaugh.

The last thing my dad said about this team before he died was "Oh my God! They fired Mangini for this pussy?" He was always a lot more patient and positive with things than me because he experienced the titles/championships this franchise won. I haven't and it's starting to look like we're about 20 years away from the urgency of winning.

Okay, who wants to pitch in??

I'm ordering these for Shurmur (10" tall, 6" wide, 2.5" thick):

With the following "gift note" : Since you can't seem to find yours, use these.

They're $40 plus shipping.

Money well spent.

My father said the same thing when we hired Shurmur. That was after he said "why the fuck would they fire Mangini for?" on black Monday.

Two great posts here. JD and n2n, I agree with both of you. I think we CAN turn the ship around. Hopefully they are as aware of the teams needs. We shal see in the offseason how things shake out but changes NEED to be made for the team to grow.

We had a pretty good draft, and I'd like to start seeing some results.
Fans already looking to next year and I don't blame them.
I think we will have things to be excited about that we lacked last year and we have some real facepalm moments just like last year.
It's going to be tough.
We aren't Barking Hard for nothing.
