Summary: Wouldn't change anything. Made the right aggressive calls. Calling plays is fun. Would have liked to get more wins. Brad Childress is a great coach. Peyton Hillis is gone. Colt McCoy, Lauvao, Pinkston, Taylor, Sheard, all come to mind as improving. Won't talk draft. Nothing surprised him.

Did I hear him right? Did he really try to give himself a mulligan for last offseason and the season? Really Shurms? Dude.... Really?

I'm sure there are some here that are giving him that same Mulligan KoK , well and some that aren't here.

Yeah but trying to give HIMSELF a mulligan while handing out excuses? That's... Good God that's the saddest thing I think i've ever seen. Blaming the freakin' lockout for their poor offseason and season... I could facepalm right now.

I saw this on the Berea Report the other night.

Reminds me of RAC all over again. He might be a good guy but he just does not act/talk/think like a guy who should be a HC in the NFL.

I'm only giving him next season because I know nothing's going to be changed this off-season.

What a surprise... another coaching whiff by the Cleveland Browns!

I said I would give Shurmy two seasons, and I want to abide by that but I just dont know. This season was a bitter pill to swallow as a whole. Wholesale regression arguably, while EVERY DIVISION RIVAL MAKES THE PLAYOFFS!!!

ROAR...

We had a pretty good draft, and I'd like to start seeing some results.
Fans already looking to next year and I don't blame them.
I think we will have things to be excited about that we lacked last year and we have some real facepalm moments just like last year.
It's going to be tough.
We aren't Barking Hard for nothing.

Quote:
Shurmur won’t say if McCoy, Hillis have a future in Cleveland

Posted by Michael David Smith on January 3, 2012, 5:36 PM EST

AP

Browns coach Pat Shurmur shared some thoughts today on where the franchise is heading in 2012, but he declined to commit to either quarterback Colt McCoy or running back Peyton Hillis as part of the team next season.

Shurmur did say that he has seen improvement in McCoy.

“The game starts in the huddle with the play-call, being able to direct things, get guys lined up,” Shurmur said. “I saw him become more efficient on some of the basic progressions. I saw him make some better plays outside the pocket later in the year better than he did earlier in the year. Leadership, being able to get guys lined up properly.”

But no matter how much improvement McCoy makes on play calling, directing the offense and going through progressions, the fundamental question remains whether he passes the ball well enough to succeed as an NFL quarterback. Shurmur declining to commit to McCoy suggests that the coach is yet to be convinced that McCoy is an NFL-quality passer.

As for Hillis, he seemed headed out of town in the middle of the season, but Shurmur said he was impressed with the way Hillis continued to work hard and contribute late in the year.

“Peyton and I had a great conversation yesterday,” Shurmur said. “I’ll tell you what, all-star player who was dealing with injury early in the middle part of the year and then came back, and gosh, I really like what he did at the end of the season. But that’s one of those questions I really can’t answer at this point.”

Shurmur also wouldn’t talk about anyone the Browns might take in the NFL draft. With the fourth overall pick, the Browns may have an opportunity to draft Baylor’s Robert Griffin III, whom Shurmur has previously gushed about as having the talent to do more than just get guys lined up properly.
The bolded part about McCoy pretty much sums up his time as the starter, imo, if they felt that Colt was their guy I think they'd back him up when asked. Not say some nice things and still leave it open to debate.

The part about Hillis is pretty damning. Basically saying "Hey, we like the effort he put forth the last few games but he's not in our future plans. IMO, Hillis is gonna be a FA. So that leaves us with yet another hole.

Be prepared for when we take Griffin because if Shurms is in love with him, you know Heckert (who worked with the Eagles and Vick) and Mikey are probably thinking the same thing. I don't like conspiracy stuff, it's interesting but I try not to buy into it, however I wonder if they let Hillis go so that if they do take Richardson at #4 a lot of fans wouldn't freak out. I know that's a huge reach and I'm not saying it is so. Just a random though that popped in my head.

Bottom line... that article sums up what's pretty much going to happen this FA/Draft. We're bringing in a QB in some fashion and it looks like we'll need a RB. All I can say is if we do release Hillis that the powers that be don't think Hardesty is going to explode because he left a lot to be desired this season.
