Rams interview Jeff Fisher

Posted by Michael David Smith on January 5, 2012, 9:24 AM EST
Reuters

As Jeff Fisher continues in his efforts to return to an NFL sideline, his next interview is set.

Fisher is meeting with the St. Louis Rams today, as reported by both ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Yahoo’s Michael Silver.

The Rams will be Fisher’s second interview of the week, following up on his earlier interview with the Dolphins. Other reports have suggested that Fisher would be interested in coaching the Buccaneers and the Colts (if Jim Caldwell gets fired), but the Rams and the Dolphins are reportedly his only interviews so far.

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is making it known that he’s willing to spend whatever it takes to get Fisher, but that doesn’t necessarily make the Dolphins the favorites. Fisher may have more control over the front office in St. Louis than he would have in Miami, and he may like the quarterback situation better in St. Louis as well.

But the biggest question is what Fisher’s views are on the quarterback situation in St. Louis. Silver reported that Fisher doesn’t necessarily need to have a stud quarterback in place where ever he goes, and that Fisher doesn’t love Bradford anyway.

The question then could become whether Fisher falls in love with Baylor’s Robert Griffen III during draft evaluations. If he does, that could create a difficult situation in St. Louis: The Rams have a lot of money tied up in Bradford, but after he followed his promising rookie season with a disappointing 2011, the new coach will at least consider the possibility that Bradford is the wrong fit for the franchise.

But it sounds like the owners in both St. Louis and Miami believe Fisher is the right fit for them. At the moment, he looks like the favorite choice for both teams.

Oh boy. I would say if you don't want Bradford you best hope Fisher doesn't go to STL 'cause I guarantee HHS will be on the phone with the Rams making the trade if The Fish goes there. Although maybe that's not a bad thing and maybe I paint a picture here. I've little doubt Fisher loves HarrellIII, he loves mobile system QB's. They take him that means MN takes Kalil which means.... Blackmon is there at #4. Now let me paint a picture that may not happen but I like to dream and think up stuff like this....

FA: WR Vincent Jackson

FA: DE Cliff Avril

1a: WR Justin Blackmon
1b: MLB Luke Kuechly
2nd: Traded for Sam Bradford
3rd: Best RT available
4th: Best DE/DT available

Hey a guy can dream right?

I don't know how I'd feel about Bradford. He looked like shit this year but the year where Shurmur was there he seemed to play like a #1 QB on a team that was devoid of talent while the Rams went 7 - 9.

I'd still love to grab Kuechly as long as go offense with the first pick, unless we traded them away to Indy.

I don't think the Rams ownership would be pleased if Fisher gave up on their first round quarterback so early, that's IF they hire Fisher.

I just don't see them drafting another quarterback when they haven't even seen the full potential of Bradford.

Well that's kind of tricky too Neo as Bradford isn't THEIR guy either, he was drafted before Kroenke bought the team and he too inherited the QB so he may have the same ties to the QB as a new coach, or as he had with Spags. Not his guy, not his fingerprint on the team and is firmly in the middle of that road.

Interesting, I think it would take maybe 2 2nds to get Bradford. Also, if you trade for Bradford you get stuck with his contract which is the last BIG rookie QB contract. And I personally never saw him as that much of an upgrade over McCoy. is he better? sure. But not THAT much better. All of 2009 I compared their stats as averages since Colt didn't play the whole season and the onyl place Bradford beat McCoy really was TDs.

For a single second round pick? if you can get him to redo his contract? I might consider Bradford as a McCoy challenger. But Porbably not even then.

I do agree with KoK though. them getting rid of Bradford isn't that far fetched of an idea. which again goes back to telling folks that the #1 pick over all still holds some risk and trading 5 picks to get a guy is pretty darned steep. I remember a lot of people clamoring for us to do "what ever it took" to trade up and get Bradford. How does that mentality look now?

Two sure things in this upcoming draft. Luck will be the pick of the colts, no offer will be big enough and someone will fall in love with RGIII.

Hard to even speculate until the new GMs and coaches are in place, but interesting it will be. The new coaches and GMs should also redefine the free agent period. Some teams with new coaches and GMs may want to dump some guys and/or salary and some may want to make a quick impact by grabbing up some big names.

This should be a fun few months.

It'll likely be multiple 2nds. I'm fine with that. With Bradford you get a guy that we know can make SOMETHING from Shurmy's offense and at a decent price. You can easily recoup two 2nds essentially getting Bradford for free. It also leaves us picks to get him some weapons and some protection.

I'll honestly say if it came down to Bradford for two 2nds or Luck for three firsts I would possibly lean towards Bradford. I've seen alot of Rams football and he's good. He won games, turned a 1-15 team into a 7-9 team under Shurmur(a positive of +6 games) with not many weapons. Much like this season wasn't all McCoy this season wasn't all Bradford. McDaniels showed he is limited as an OC and his way will only work with a Brady, Moss and Welker on his roster. It won't work with a young QB, an Amendola and a group of slow street FA's.

Neither one is a sure thing but i'm sure you'll keep chanting it over and over and over and over hoping it becomes the case.

No thanks on Bradford. Compare Bradfords rookie season to McCoys season this year. Very similar. What's the common denominator?

Wouldn't be much of an upgrade for us with the coach and system we have in place IMO.

Also, IMO Blackmon will be there for us regardless. Someone is going to move in front of us to take RG III (unless it's us moving up) which will leave either Blackmon or Kalil there @ 4.

What is Kalil is like ? Is he good addition for our offensive line ? If we can't have RGIII or Blackmon

About as sure a thing as you continuing to be a dick about every post that doesn't agree with your thinking.

Luck will be in Indy..................mark it down and move on. Someone will fall in love with RGIII and it could even be us (doubt it but shit happens). In any case he won't get past Washington.......So, yea I will keep chirping that Luck will go #1 to Indy because they aren't giving Manning $28 million not knowing if he will even be able to play and RGIII will be the second QB taken and he won't be in the green room long enough to finish his coffee.

Fact is I would love to have a chance at Luck because he is a once in a decade type player...........................but that's also the reason we won't have a chance at him. If you are Indy with a QB who's career might be over, why would you trade the pick and start a rebuild passing on a franchise QB. Even if they decide to keep Manning for a year, at a reduced price, IMO they still take Luck.

Come on, even you along with your arrogant bluster can understand that. You can spew all the venom you want in your posts and that still doesn't make your opinion worth any more then anyone else.

Your "nobody knows as much as you bullshit" is tired and old...................

On that note and before KoK can reply ...I will remind all to keep the topic on football, and stay away from petty arguments.

He's a stud ...in one of the few positions we don't need. If he's the guy available at 4, I would expect us to trade down.

There are like maybe 6 elite players in this draft. Luck, Kalil, RG III, Blackmon, Claiborne, Richardson
