Doesn't seem to be an excuse for these gentlemen, seems the only ones clutching to that excuse is Holmgren and Shurmur.

I say give him a pre season to put his plans down and get Heckert to pick the right skills players and hire offensive co-ordinator, maybe Pat can focus on being head coach and hopefully grown into the job. If we are still poor there is a two former head coach in the club who can step in.

Shurmur should be fired because it's too hard to make fun of his name.

Hall of Fame coach Don Shula didn't win a playoff game until his sixth season as a head coach in Baltimore, and went 0-2 in the postseason during his first five seasons. He probably would have been fired before getting the chance to become Shula.
And part of the problem is back then, you only built through the draft. Players were locked in wherever they were drafted for their first 5-7 seasons and teams had first options of resigning.
Today, you're rarely going to find a franchise qb or bookend tackles on the fa block without having to pay through the nose in compensation picks, but many other positions can often be addressed.
So if a front office and coaching staff work well together, you can fill in holes in the fa market and draft the rest. Turn around shouldn't take forever.

SF - weakest division in football = 6 easy wins no matter what...FRANK GORE...VERNON DAVIS...MICHAEL CRABTREE. Name me the 3 weapons the Browns have that match that.
Carolina - 6-10? Really? Wins over Jax/Was/Ind/TBx2...this somehow is SUCCESS?
Tennessee - 9-7 on a team that is always within a game or two of 8-8...wow. And includes a loss to Indi.

All 3 of these teams were at least 8-8 just two years ago. Not exactly turning around a 5-11 team now are they.

SF- 6-10 to 13-3, spin it however you want the name of the game is improvement to the tune of 7 games.

Carolina- Really? So improving a team by 5 wins in your FIRST season of a major rebuild ISN'T improvement? Really? Nah, actually it IS. What ISN'T improvement is going from 5-11(You know, the record we fired the last guy for) to 4-12 against A SEASON TWICE AS EASY AS THE PREVIOUS.

TN- 6-10 to 9-7. Bottomline you can try and spin with it but a first time HC with all the excuses eager to trot out for Shurmy improved the team by three wins in his first season.

The fact is the excuses are just that, excuses and a load of bullshit being spread by the losers in the front office. They are what separates the winners from the losers. Winners don't make excuses for sucking ass, Cleveland Browns front offices do. It is yet ANOTHER indication that change needs to be made and that we are delaying the inevitable.

The three men I used as examples aren't losers, they don't have to be. They were all man enough to say fuck the excuses, fuck last seasons record we're going to improve and we are going to win. Meanwhile the guy we're supposed to give continuity to for continuity sake has been trotting out excuses from "the other guy cheated" to "c'mon fellas can a homie get a mulligan? This really is my first offseason and season, the last one shouldn't count right?"

Btw, the continuity some of you guys are pleading for just walked off the field after getting their asses stomped by 21 points in a playoff game. Hows that continuity for continuity sake working out for our AFCN rivals down in Southern Ohio? When someone doesn't have IT they don't have IT and they need to go.
