Default 2012 NFL Free Agency

Figured I give us something else to talk about other than the draft.

Some Wr's that will be available.

Reggie Wayne (IND) - The Colts are an organization that tends to take care of their own. Though they're in a precarious position after signing Manning long term and with Robert Mathis looking for his own deal, the Colts will have to make room. On the bright side, the new CBA couldn't have come at a better time for the Colts who would have been due to dole out a large sum for a potentially high draft pick.
Wes Welker (NE) - Through 5 games, Welker is on pace to break the season record for receptions and shatter the record for receiving yards. It's safe to say heÕs Brady's favorite target on 3rd downs to move the chains and virtually impossible to cover out of the slot due to his quickness, intelligence, and hands. You have to think Brady will make a push to keep him around if the front office shockingly has other plans.
Vincent Jackson (SD) - Partially due to his actions and injuries, the Chargers have been reluctant to sign Vincent Jackson to a long-term extension. If there's any animosity between the two parties, this could be the time where there's a split. Still, the best guess is that the team will pay Jackson like a number one receiver and keep him in San Diego.
DeSean Jackson (PHI) - Jackson is the perfect weapon for the Eagles offense that relies upon big plays. Though the organization was unwilling to cave to his offseason demands, they'll have to think long and hard about doing everything in their power to retain Jackson. Though Maclin may be the better overall receiver, Jackson's vertical ability has a great impact on the way defenses approach the Eagles' offense. Though based on his comments and actions of several months ago, it appears that Jackson could be lured away from Philadelphia with a lucrative offer.
Dwayne Bowe (KC) - One subpar season aside, Dwayne Bowe has emerged into the number one receiver the offense needs. He's a big body and a good route runner with a large catching radius. His most impressive attribute is his body of work around the goal line. He's a complete mismatch with the fade, slant, and back shoulder passes and has shown the propensity to make the acrobatic catches on numerous occasions.
Marques Colston (NO) - When healthy, Colston is a match-up nightmare for any corner. He's an incredibly physical receiver and a sure-handed, polished route runner. When he's available, he brings another dimension to the Saints offense that none of their other talented weapons possess. Though Brees has proven capable of running the offense without him, they're even more dangerous with him.
Steve Johnson (BUF) - Still working on his meager rookie salary, Johnson figures to be a big part of the Bills' long term plans. On a team with few superstars, the Bills can afford to lock up Johnson long term and maintain an effective passing attack. After he and fellow free agent Ryan Fitzpatrick are locked up, Bills fans can breathe easier about the bright future of their offense.
Brandon Lloyd (STL) - Lloyd's next contract will largely depend upon his production over the remainder of the season. Though he hasn't been as explosive and consistent as a year ago when he broke out at age 29, he still appears to be a dangerous receiver with the league's largest catching radius.
Robert Meachem (NO) - Meachem is one of the younger receivers that could be a nice pick-up for an offense with a larger workload to offer. He's a good downfield threat and has nice instincts in the red zone. Unlike Colston, Meachem is more of a luxury for the offense.
Mario Manningham (NYG) - With Manningham and Cruz behind Hakeem Nicks, the Giants have found a nice threesome. They seemed disappointed in Steve Smith's decision to bolt for Philadelphia without the option to match the contact, so there's no question the front office will look to keep the remainder of their receiving corps intact.
Mike Wallace (PIT) - Restricted - No receiver in the league forces safeties back like Wallace. His deep speed is second to none on the perimeter and he capitalizes on it with the ability to run those vertical routes proficiently. He's improving in other areas of his game and is an extremely valuable piece to the Steelers' offense.

I have been surfing a Stoolers forum, and they seem to think that with their cap issues, they feel they may lose one of their star receivers. What are the odds that we could land one of them??

I knew it was inevitable they would have cap issues after they went overboard signing their own guys last year. They may be on their last leg finally. I would love pilfering one of their young receivers, that would be nice.

Would be nice to steal Matt Forte away from Bears, but it will never happen.

Seelers are scheduled to be $20 million over the cap. Someone got to go. I'm thinking some of the older veterans like Keisel, Ward and Ferrior might be in trouble. Can't see them letting any of their young receivers go.

I love the fact that New Orleans's might not have enough cap space to sign both Colston and Meachem. there are a ton of RBs out there also. Hillis might not be looking at the contract he thinks in FA.

mario williams, please, but desean jackson does nothing that fits what the browns are trying to do, nor does he think about anyone but himself. he can't do anything but go deep, his routes are sloppy, and he's an utter idiot. paying desean jackson is a terrible idea, along the lines of andre rison stupidity.

edit: adding mario williams would be a great idea. he'd give us a front four to truly be reckoned with. pockets would collapse all over the place, especially with benard coming off the edge and williams possibly kicking inside like justin tuck did against the pats in super bowl XLII.

i've been thinking today about the steeler receivers....

wallace had a down year, but is, by every piece of info i have come across, the first priority to sign long term. although brown had a fantastic year, its possible he benefited from wallace drawing coverage. brown is up next year, so the big decision is which one do you keep? brown is the better player imo, but wallace has a gear brown doesn't.

that leaves sanders, ward and cothery. they're likely gonna force out ward, cause he doesn't play special teams and is making around 4 mil next season. they have to resign cothery, whom they liked alot this year. they may be able to keep this WR corp intact this year, but not next. word is ward will restructure to stay on the team.

tons of other problems/injuries as well. the decline, or at least retooling year, is upon them. hampton may be having knee surgery (either way, he'll be outta shape again), and hoke (backup NT) has a serious back injury and may never play again. aaron smith (big cap #) and kiesel may be done as well, smiths finished last 2 years on IR and kiesel also has serious knee issues. farrior is 39 but the key to the LB corp, so they'll wanna keep him around. but very soon, worilds and sylvester (the 2 young future replacements at OLB/MLB respectively) haven't been that impressive. they've got so much money tied up in LBers its sick. troy's making 11+ mil, and looking ever more pedestrian. clark keeps that D backfield togther and allows troy to freelance. clarks backup, ryan mundy, bit on tebows playfake and was outta position when denver scored in OT. clark doesn't make those mistakes....

i wont go into their OL, but max starks is probly done as well with a torn ACL. he was their only real LT, although glibert looked OK. either way, their already shaky OL just lost its cornerstone. pouncy is going under the knife for his foot soon as well.

I know you live over there so keep this stuff coming please! Sooner or later this run of theirs had to crash, and it just may be now. Cap and injury issues will certainly do it, along with missing on some key picks and guys not developing like they usually do for that lucky ass team. Next thing you know their steroid supply will run out and they will quit getting every call and break known to mankind.

Give it a year and say goodbye to Steeler Nation.

Something tells me that even if they cut some of their aging veterans, it still won't be enough to keep Wallace or Brown. Wallace is the biggest deep threat in football and is going to want to be paid like one. Sure would be nice to have his speed carving up their aging slow defense twice a year. Polamalu is the fastest player on their defense and he is already 30 and injury prone. If we can't get Brown or Wallace, I hope we can get DeSean Jackson. I know he is kinda a douche, but he is a playmaker. His presence would instantly open up our offense. Then there is Robert Meacham. It is going to be an interesting off season this year for sure.

Desean Jackson is only a douche because he performed very well and the Eagles chose to throw all the money they had at those big name free agents. Sure Jackson could have handled it better but the guy had been a pretty good team guy up till this year.

I'd love to see him in a Browns uniform.
