Ricky's out of football (temporarily) about the same time as Couch, because he wanted to smoke weed rather than play football at the time.

You can play the "what if " game to extinction- I already have.

"What if" the Browns had drafted Ladanian Tomlinson instead of Spare Change Warren?
"What if" The Browns had drafted Ben Rothlisberger (and blown a second round pick in the process) instead of taking Knievel Winslow?
"What if" the Browns had drafted Aaron Rodgers instead of Butterfingers Braylon?
"What if" the Browns had told the Ratbirds "no thanks" and taken Ngata instead of Wimbley?
"What if" the Browns weren't so enamored of Brady Quinn, and taken Chris Johnson or Rashard Mendenall with the pick they forfeited to Dallas the next year?
"What if" instead of taking Alex Mack, the Browns had taken Clay Matthews Jr instead?

I do hope you're ready to puke about now, and the reason for the Browns current suckinees is crystal clear.

Good post Solon! Those are also sobering thoughts for good discussion after the saloon.

Julio was terrific but Atlanta got worse especially all those games he missed (or partially played) with a pulled hammy. They were the#1 seed in last year's playoffs before going one and done. The SCARY thing is Roddy White got worse instead of better with seemingly better match-ups with corners and less Safety involvement. A normally reliable receiver had a lot of drops this year. That was an early knock on Julio when many wanted to convict him of freshman jitters long after the drops reduced considerably.

Where am I going with all that above? Is Matty Ice getting better or is he developing unbreakable habits of locking onto his primary target? I'll be honest, I haven't seen him and Joey Bottaflacco (then bought-a-Mercedes) improving very much while their lineups have gotten faster and better. There's a lot of Alex Smith in those 2 guys, which is fine when they play lesser talented teams. I'm waiting to see one of them carry a football team especially in a post season.

Post seasons command a driver not a passenger at QB. I'm sure Jim Harbaugh will use as much slight of hand as he can with the play calling for Alex so they might suck out an uncovered OT for a TD. You can beat the Browns doing that. What happens when you meet the Fockers?

As for Ricky Williams - he's still playing after the marijuana sabbatical cleansed his system. The irony there was Ditka threw away his draft to go golfing after they traded up for Ricky. That soon led to playing golf full time over coaching.

Jimmy Graham in round 3? Heist of the century. The Saints were VERY fortunate he was Dennis Rodman Jr in the offensive side of basketball. Basketball's mason became football's "Ma Son." Say that slow and it'll make sense.

Sanchez is finding life after USC to be not so utopian just like Matt Leinart, John Boy Walton Booty, Todd Marijuanavich, Paul MacDonald-has-the-ball-e-i-e-i-ouch, and Rob "needs-a-man's" Johnson. If going to a 9-7 team where half his teammates think he's an anchor is stressful - imagine bringing that here. He was petrified of the Baltimore team we face twice a year the last time we saw him on MNF.

Gronkowski. ARGHHHH! We ended up with a backup (Cameron) from USC. He got the same praises Shaun Rogers got for dunking a basketball. If it wasn't translating at USC - what made Heckert think it would translate in the NFL? I didn't like the Cameron pick very much. You can get that kind of backup in the undrafted world.

If we drafted Julio, we wouldn't be talking about 2 first round picks in April. On the other hand, we don't have to hope that Danny Ferry gets coached up into being Charles Barkley in traffic. Not sure that's coachable and it worries me regarding Little. He's a great athlete that doesn't always look willing to portray a great athlete on the football field. For examples, the smaller DB in SF that he couldn't outrun to the end zone also outjumped Little for the football. The hand eye-coordination and focus on the #1 responsibility of a WR was REALLY bad from at times. He was THE reason we led the NFL in dropped passes late in the year. I did LIKE the wrinkle of him playing RB and it worked with great success so it vanished immediately thereafter.
